Exactly what kind of a cookie are are you offering?

I still have a headful of hair, though staring to slat & pepper round the sideburns too, age difference between male/female has to be taken into account for any relationship, short, medium or long term. An older person, male or female, shouldn't ever hit on younger people and if they are the object of " a hit" need to consider many things carefully. As an 18 yr old, I had my Mrs Robinson moment, and felt and still feel that the experience was worthwhile. However I also feel that under-20s should be for under-20s. A few years ago I was hit on a girl who was 19 years my junior.................I didn't succumb to baser instincts, perhaps others might have.
Generally I was grow older, age differences diminish, to a point as you explain quite nicely regards shared experience/aspirations/activities etc.

Still think we should share a beer!

The acceptable mores of these modern times is radically different than the ancient(but meritorious ) code of conduct for man/ woman relationship. These modern times seem very condensed as if every one is in a hurry. Initially romance was not the goal that was being sought. The simple meeting of a man and a woman had it own merit and was truly an interesting and desirable social activity. An old saying : men fall in love with their eyes and woman fall in love with their ears. Sorry have to go

Anyway to address your question --- usually the ages are relatively close. Any where in a 5 year radius is most common, but it's not set in stone. Commonly because of shared interest and experience with shared time frame of life experience. But shared interest can transcend that so one cannot use that as an absolute.
Like wise it is usually the shared interest of the age commonality that makes it most common for the ages to be relatively close. What's not appropriate is for men(most common) or women(not common) to pursue the younger(hit on) for their youth.
    Any way that's my opinion.
