I feel that a proposal is imminent. However, as a precautionary measure, in the meantime, I have procured a DNA sample from my love interest and am presently incubating our fetus in my home laboratory. If he doesn't propose, perhaps our baby will compel him.

Have you passed the prospective husband's mother test?? You know how Armenian mothers feel towards their sons

So to get back to the topic -- no one knows the why of this tradition?

I tried a brief google query and it seems there's a lot of cultural/national variability in this area. E.g. German's wear their engagement rings on the left hand and wedding rings on the right?

But when Google points me to THIS , I have to give up the search.
