It may be motivated by selfishness, as you think everything is. That doesn't mean the act itself can't be defined by a different means. Otherwise, you may as well just call all human emotion "selfishness." If you really think humans are that simple.

However, whatever means you define the act by, it still links to the selfish motivation-which means, that selfishness does play an underlying role.

Yes, human emotions are selfish( looking at the big picture), however, as you said human's are not that simple, thus, there are many aspects that influence human emotion, but selfishness, is always at the core.
