I agree that comparing how Armenians survived in the past (Iran, Syria, etc) is a piss poor example to argue that they can survive America. For starters, we're not as well spread out, here, inhabiting areas all over the country. We have an extremely small, handfull of concentrated pockets, and then the other 90% or so of the nation has never even HEARD of us, let alone posses Armenians in their area. Very, very, VERY rarely have I run into someone who knows what an Armenian is.
Then you have the influences that Win described, which those other countries were exempt from. You're comparing middle eastern nations, which at least bare some similarities to us (by the way, if we didn't assimilate with them a little, how come we share character traits with them now ) to a country we share nothing in common with, a country run on a pop-culture, greedy capitalistic machine.
To find proof that assimilation in 100% Armenian families is already a problem, you needn't look further then the hard core, proud Armenian parents that have raised kids within your "Little Armenia" community. Kids who shout about how Armenia is #1.....in a black "accent", with pants falling off their a$$es, and tilted hats, etc......were these some traditional Armenian garments that I didn't read about?
Face it, this is an entirely new challenge that we, or any other culture, haven't faced prior to coming here. Unless every generation of your family for eternity plans on spending their lives in California, the kids are going to feel like outcasts. Because, and again, I have to emphasize this since most Cali Armos can't grasp the concept, if you go almost anywhere outside of south Cali, the chances of you running into another Armenian are about as likely as Bill Gates filing for bankruptcy. So....what you're saying is not only do we have to be prisoners of our nationality, but we have to be prisoners of South Cali, too???
