  • The future of the universe

As we know the universe is expanding, it has been expanding since the big bang. But will it keep expanding or will it at a point stop expanding and stay at one size or will it come back to one point in the far away future. What do you guys think?

I think the currently prevailing theory is "the big freeze" scenario.

      Einstein thought it was constant.
      Hubble said it was expanding.

It is expanding and will continue to do so. Only the limits of the universe (if there are any) will stop it from expanding further. I Personaly think the big bang has happened many times before. I think all matter will once again recombine via gravity and create another singularity event-bigbang. But thats just my guess not based on anything but my observation and thought.

Perhaps the actual universe is so big that the system we consider to be 'our universe' is but one of several, unique big bangs that resulted in different 'universe systems that can exist at the same time. They're just so far apart from eachother that we are only aware of one big bang resulting in one 'universe system'.

This has been proposed. I think it's called the multiverse theory. Think of soap bubbles.
