    They all rant and rave about how awesome quantum computing will be ... but even with all this silicon the best thing people manage to do is "facebook" and "twitter".

      I agree Sip, but this is a separate issue. It's how the available material/technology is utilized compared to how it could be utilized. It seems like if it won't entertain people aren't interested.

        I'm sure the government and military is extremely interested. Here is what happened in manufacturing... computers got more powerful, so software got more cpu hungry and 3D CAD got more data intensive. Somehow, in the end, productivity remained the same or decreased.

          Well if light can be stopped or slowed down a lot then you can atleast theoreticaly make things invisible. I know it is not possible now but if you lets say are able to surround a plane or tank or well whatever with plates full of this super cooled stuff then light would stop as it hit it and would not bounce back. This i think will create a dark spot where the object is so you can tell there is something there so it isnt really like harry potters cloak but you couldn't tell what the dark shape is exactly. It is a interesting concept and i am sure some new research has been done already on it but we just don't know about it.
