  • Save the Persian Leopard

The Persian Leopard is endangered; fewer than 2,000 are thought to survive in the wild.

Most live in Iran, and about 10 in Armenia and 10 in Azerbaijan. This is a remarkable cat - please raise awareness about its endangered nature.

Hasn't it been endangered for over 10 years now?

Unfortunately there are always some hunters who can come with enough cash to add this cat to their trophy........I like to see them hunt with only a spear or a knife, if they are man enough to face this magnificent animal on equal grounds, that is if challenge is what they seek.

A true hunter eats its kill.

That exists, but species also have a time limit. So, sadly, one of the factors is: "it's time we all must face."

Tali here's some information on this cat -- did you know we also had Tigers in the area that are now extinct?

Nice one - more areas for Iran/Armenia cooperation. Eco-Cooperation / Conservation.

Exactly. Pretty silly to hunt this cat as its very shy. It's not a man eater: it mostly goes after mountain goats and boars. If you get too close to it, it gets very animated and will get aggressive, but its not a people stalker.

In Persian - a good story on poaching these animals:

We gave a couple to Putin as he wanted to help in their conservation.

Leopards are very adaptable species. I dougbt the persian leopard is all that different to be considered a separate species. They used to range across the mideast region and in asia. Pound for pound these cats are the strongest in nature and they will have little trouble killing humans and livestock. These and other animals need the proper habitat to survive and preserving the natural environment is the only hope for their survival.

I'm not sure if they are considered a subspecies or not. I agree with you that saving their natural habitat is key. I just think it's magical to know that we have big cats running around in those mountains and forests around the Caspian (and I hope they eat a few Pan-Turkists )

I do know that we used to have a Caspian Tiger in Iran that was different from other Tigers - it's now extinct but you can see a picture of it here: short ears / bushy face like a lion.

Also I know that the Iranian cheetah is different:

                    Re: Save the Persian Leopard

Exactly! The native American Indians of the United States used their time honored way to do things until the White Man arrived and they got guns.
They have a tradition to thank their creator of the universe or mother earth, etc. for the animals to eat and they also do a prayer to thank the
animal for they are appreciative to eat it for their food.

Sadly, these trophy hunters have their priorities and whatnot all mixed up.

I am sure everyone here is aware of what the Chinese do that is horrible: they skin and kill dogs and cats alive in front of crammed cages of
dogs and cats watching in horror! There is numerous videos on youtube. Be prepared it is disturbing to watch. They skin animals alive and then
throw them to the side to die in 5 minutes.
They chained a German Shepherd to a metal fence and began to use a carving knife to skin off it from back to front and the animal was screaming.

And the US does trade with these people?
The officials steal the dogs from the owners and kill them in the streets or put them in these cages jammed packed without water and food and
they have to watch in horror to see their fate.
You know already how I feel.
