Re: 23 and Me
What bothered me more than no assurance of that sort was that they don't describe very well how it is where the information they are selling. Are they simply looking at their "members" health outcomes and reporting correlations within their own sample or are they keeping up with genetic research and reporting those findings about particular genotypes as well? If it included the latter, I'd be a more tempting service to utilize.

Is there any sort of certification, validation, etc on what these guys will report to you? I checked their website and I didn't see anything that would suggest anything on how much you can trust them

Re: 23 and Me
I agree, we would know a lot more about ourselves if we had some idea about disease risks from our genetic history. But I think we could learn just as much about ourselves and what we've inherited by observing our memories of growing up with our parents, teachers, elders, friends... That is our actual experience. If we compare and try to relate it to our genetics, I think the genetics would better represent our potential qualities: health risks, physical or mental advantages/disadvantages. And then, since afterall we're playing a game of matching our experience with genetics, we can relate our impressions of our parents to this information.
Sounds like fun, but I don't have 99$ to spend on this right now :P So I'll muse for free
