The Armenia - Turkey match was a rather un-popular match for Turkish viewers. You can't expect a country that just played semi-finals in the Euro to care a big deal about our first qualification match.

It wouldn't have made a difference if the opponent was Armenia or England, qualifying group matches just aren't big hits.

It's sad how happy the turks are that their #10 ranked team beat the #98 ranked team. If we only win one game, I hope it is the last one in istanbul, make them cry on their home turf.

Why am I an "expert"?

Reading the commentary I think guys have said what i would have wanted to say. The passing away of the previous coach is quite disappointing as he seemed to have a nack for getting the best out of his players. I am looking for good results from Armenia against teams within her own stature.

It is unrealistic to expect a victory over turkey, but hoping for the players to lay it all out on the field and hope for the best result possible isn't.

Let's never underestimate the enemy and overestimate ourselves. Doing so, as we have experienced in the past, is suicidal.

Oh and as for the topic, it was a good game, i hope some of you guys come to Istanbul for the away game. Most of the Armenians i know here support Fenerbahce and the game will be in Fener stadium so you won't be alone.

Those were my thoughts exactly after watching that game.

btw, I walked into a room where that game was playing in the community center of my armenian elementary school which is pretty out of the way from any place I normally go to, and I only went there by completely blind chance. I didn't know the game was today, I didn't know it was playing at my first school, the only reason I went that way was to try a very long winded, alternate route home from my school and even then I wandered about on foot instead of taking buses home, just to explore areas I hadn't been to in town, and then, by complete chance, by needed to use a bathroom, I walked into the Armenian community center, didn't find the bathroom and walked into a small room full of Armenians.

What is funny is, the second I walked in, the Turks scored their first goal, lol. I never watched this supposedly better first half of the match, my entire view of the game was of Armenia using poor strategies. Ridiculously pathetic defense (1 turk running through 3-4 Armenians), constantly losing the ball in friendly passes, inadequate support in midfield and offense... it was something. What I did note was that Armenians didn't hold back on their charges and pushes on their opponents. The view of the time for me was one that just didn't keep up with the professionalism of high calibur international soccer and I can't blame them.

I was not upset by the defeat at all, whereas many Armenians in the room with their flags and soccer jerseys were, some of them were so upset during the second half that they would leave the room. I instead decided to watch till the end of the two minutes added at the end of the second half, I was constantly reflecting on all the weaknesses of our team and devised of training strategies we could use that seemed to help make underdogs like Spain win the Euro. If our coach and our players are eager enough to excel and mimic the succesful tactics of a hot blooded team like Spain, I think we'd whoop some ass.

The one player I was really impressed by was our goalie, I believe he is Russian, correct?

I agree.

Yes, Berezovski is Russian, born in Yerevan. He has been a soild goalie on the national side for quite some time.

Let us also remember, some Turks as we have already seen may want to take the low road for various reasons and post insults. So be it.


Some things to consider:

Let us remind them that Armenia is country of 3MM and Turkey 70MM thus Turkey has a larger fan base thus larger revenues to support a domestic league as well as having a larger talent pool for players to choose from and certainly more experience at this level.

Armenia is still trying to build its domestic league and Armenian football is still developing. Despite the most recent setback and their current struggles they have and they are getting more competitive in recent years and things are starting to catch on.

Not only their president. The whole policy of their country is opportunistic and based on kissing behinds (Russia or the US, little matters). Anyways guys, let us not mistake football with real life. We have much more important things on the agenda.
