Re: 2012 London Olympics and the Armenian Olympics Team
Yeah it seems complicated. From what I understand, there are two bronze medal matches. The losers of the semifinals are automatically in each match, while the athletes who have lost to each finalists in the previous rounds wrestle each other and the winner of each is put in one of the two bronze matches.Last edited by Mher; 08-07-2012, 08:34 AM.

The Iranian wrestler have won his semi-final match and is in the final now, so the Armenian wrestler can compete for the bronze medal. You can watch all the games, wrestling and others, at this website:

I still don't understand the qualifying, scoring, etc. Here is where I check:Originally posted by Mher View PostHovhannes Varderesyan loses but has chances for bronze
"However, the Armenian wrestler has a chance to fight for bronze if Hyeonwoo Kim advances to the final."
London Olympics 2012: Artur Aleksanyan defeated in quarter-final
"If Iranian wrestler advances to the final, Aleksanyan will have an opportunity for bronze medal match."

No with Irani-Armenians there is just about 0 assimilation, and everyone has distinct Armenian names, for examples the defensive midfielder on the national team is named Andranik. Ironically though, many of our last names were often changed centuries ago with the ian/yan dropped.Originally posted by ara87 View PostI know, it's just that sometimes it turns out that someone's mom or dad, or maybe a grandparent were Armenian. Also, there have been a few Amenians who've played for Iran's national soccer team over the past decade, so it didn't seem impossible that their could be some on their olympic team.
Anyways, have you noticed any Armenian's on other countries teams? I know Russia has some, Uruguay also had one who was at least half Armenian (last name is "Melconian-Alvez")
