Come on ... the US can't be expected to win ALL the medals ... I mean especially with historically powerhouse basketball nations like Lithuania and Puerto Rico
Who said we were expecting that? But since there's all the fuss about USA being the capital of basketball... then I expect them to win over SOME teams.. I mean, other than Angola..
If I were a pro basketballer in the US, there's no way in hell I'd go to play in the olympics ... it's like the same as a guy agreeing to do boxing with a woman. It's a no win situation: If he wins, he beat a girl, and if he loses, he got beaten by a girl
i dont know if you were being sarcastic about lithuania, but they really have been a stronghold in international competetion since about 1992 when they played with their ty-dyed jerseys...
what is really sad is that baseball is America's pastime and they didn't even qualify
Haha, sour grapes, Seapahn. Hey, at least you can hope USA will beat Angola.
Haha at baseball. USA lost the women's 100 m final (athletics) in style today. By who else but a Belarussian (as white as white can be). Oh yes, and the women's 4 x 100 medley relay in swimming!! The Aussies kicked some American *ss. Not to mention, the whole Paul Hamm controversy.. now the only reason USA has won so many medals is that it has sent more atheletes than anyone else. haha, at least Americans can be proud of NOT winning the tr@mpoline medal!!!
And the only gold South Africa has was by WHITE men (swimming!).. now watch the whiny black South Africans accept the honour of those gold medals, then b*tch about the presence of white people in their country. Oh yes, did I also say that someone brought gold for Zimbabwe, and that athlete wasn't black? (gee, I guess there was discrimination in sports competitions too, because black Zimbabweans didn't win )
Sounds like blacks have been having a bad year, after all..
That's what makes this country so great. No other country in the world could support the statement that "All the athletes come with different ethnic and cultural backgrounds, but can all play under the same banner of a country" with any validity.
Steeler, the U.S. is a modern day Roman Empire. For the sake of argument I never stated this country was "bad", however, their wins are in no way legitimate. You can twist this around and say how “multiculturalism” is a good thing because my point has nothing to do with the pros and cons about “multiculturalism” even though I am against a multicultral society.
Ethnically there is no such thing as a American, so, someone that was a born in Armenia competing for the U.S. does in no way "represent" the athletic prowess of the U.S. If what your saying is true then technically everyone that has a American citizenship is a American.
What's so great about "all athletes with different ethnic and cultural backgrounds [playing] under the same banner of a country"? I fail to see the point.
