      OLYMPIC TRADITION
The last recorded champion of the ancient Olympics was Prince Varastades, who won the boxing competition at the 291st Olympic Games (approx. 388 A.D.) before becoming king of Armenia. In modern times, Armenia represented the Soviet Union through the 1988 Games and then the Unified Team in 1992. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) recognized Armenia as a member in 1993, and 32 athletes competed for the nation in 1996.

From the NBC coverage on the games. Check out the full article on there site.

wow...32 athletes, now its like 13 (plus trainers?)

By the way, I saw the whole thing with the Armenia intro, it was without all that NBC bs. The announcer said that half of Armenia's populations is under the poverty line, but who ever athlete wins gold gets 40000$ from the government. That won't happen though, I doubt anyones even gonna win a medal. 96 was the best year with like 2 golds, silver and a couple of bronzes I think.

Oo and If he does get Gold its gone be for the American team not Armenian. But its okay. He is only 18, what a great accomplishment as such a young age.

And in the end he was interview he said “We’re Armenian. We have this thing where we get a little bit out of control in the ring. I love this sport so much. The coaches have told me to calm down, just think about points instead of trying to get the guy out of there.”

"out of control" I found that very funny.

The irony is that Puerto Rico is a territory of the US.
