Re: Motion to make approval mandatory for registration

I'm not saying there's a huge problem, but if there's a simple way to eliminate just about all of them before they can even register to begin with, why not use it? Something like what Icy mentioned, or a program that makes you enter those random letters, numbers or words before you can register would be more than sufficient to eliminate this problem, and would take no extra action on the part of the mods other than to initiate the program once.

I'm not coming down on any mods, but it gets irritating to see 3+ year old threads bumped by a bot simply because they're advertising something ever so remotely to a word mentioned somewhere in the thread.

BTW, here's another one that needs deletion: http://forum.hyeclub.com/showthread.php?t=17514

The site has that already, it uses Advanced Captcha 3.0 unless I am mistaken to prevent spam bots, it works the same as the system you guys are proposing but there are ways around that too sadly

Re: Motion to make approval mandatory for registration

Okay my suggestion, how about the members have to wait for moderator activation, like a pending membership? If its not activated they cant use their account, or does Hyeclub us that already, or maybe members should individually click on an activation link in a valid email to use their account.

Thats what I have done with spammers and it works pretty well IMO

They do have to do those image verification things (i.e. entering the letters/numbers) before they can register and once they do they must activate by link in email.

I know you do have the image verification one, however didn't know about the activation thing, I dunno I'm stumped then, but I have never had any complaints regarding how spam was dealt with on the forum, its usually very quickly sorted, I think you all are doing a great job with it.

I have used this site before, helps loads against spammers, add the names to the ban list or check em to see if they are there, helps a xxxxeload to stop spam before it turns into worse (we at one site had a dude spamming us with ANimal Sex pics)
