15 Character Limit Posts

I do not understand the purpose of this. Why is there a 15 character limit when someone makes a post? Can we have that abolished or is that some sort of feature that is imbedded in the forum? Some feedback please...

It serves no purpose. I mean, people get around it anyway. It's just that, they get annoyed in the process. So if it's possible, could the limit be lifted?
