Forum Rules (Everyone Must Read!!!)

1] What you CAN NOT post.

You agree, through your use of this service, that you will not use this forum to post any material which is:
- abusive
- vulgar
- hateful
- harassing
- personal attacks
- obscene

You also may not:
- post images that are too large (max is 500*500px)
- post any copyrighted material unless the copyright is owned by you or cited properly.
- post in UPPER CASE, which is considered yelling
- post messages which insult the Armenians, Armenian culture, traditions, etc
- post racist or other intentionally insensitive material that insults or attacks another culture (including Turks)

The Ankap thread is excluded from the strict rules because that place is more relaxed and you can vent and engage in light insults and humor. Notice it's not a blank ticket, but just a place to vent. If you go into the Ankap thread, you enter at your own risk of being clowned on.
What you PROBABLY SHOULD NOT post...
Do not post information that you will regret putting out in public. This site comes up on Google, is cached, and all of that, so be aware of that as you post. Do not ask the staff to go through and delete things that you regret making available on the web for all to see because we will not do it. Think before you post!

2] Use descriptive subject lines & research your post. This means use the SEARCH.

This reduces the chances of double-posting and it also makes it easier for people to see what they do/don't want to read. Using the search function will identify existing threads on the topic so we do not have multiple threads on the same topic.

3] Keep the focus.

Each forum has a focus on a certain topic. Questions outside the scope of a certain forum will either be moved to the appropriate forum, closed, or simply be deleted. Please post your topic in the most appropriate forum. Users that keep doing this will be warned, then banned.

4] Behave as you would in a public location.

This forum is no different than a public place. Behave yourself and act like a decent human being (i.e. be respectful). If you're unable to do so, you're not welcome here and will be made to leave.

5] Respect the authority of moderators/admins.

Public discussions of moderator/admin actions are not allowed on the forum. It is also prohibited to protest moderator actions in titles, avatars, and signatures. If you don't like something that a moderator did, PM or email the moderator and try your best to resolve the problem or difference in private.

6] Promotion of sites or products is not permitted.

Advertisements are not allowed in this venue. No blatant advertising or solicitations of or for business is prohibited.
This includes, but not limited to, personal resumes and links to products or
services with which the poster is affiliated, whether or not a fee is charged
for the product or service. Spamming, in which a user posts the same message repeatedly, is also prohibited.

7] We retain the right to remove any posts and/or Members for any reason, without prior notice.

- PLEASE READ -

Members are welcome to read posts and though we encourage your active participation in the forum, it is not required. If you do participate by posting, however, we expect that on the whole you contribute something to the forum. This means that the bulk of your posts should not be in "fun" threads (e.g. Ankap, Keep & Kill, This or That, etc.). Further, while occasionally it is appropriate to simply voice your agreement or approval, not all of your posts should be of this variety: "LOL Member213!" "I agree."
If it is evident that a member is simply posting for the sake of posting, they will be removed.

8] These Rules & Guidelines may be amended at any time. (last update September 17, 2009)

If you believe an individual is repeatedly breaking the rules, please report to admin/moderator.

  • Fatal Mistakes By The Moderators

    http://forum.armenianclub.com/showthread.php?t=5610

This is what one of the Moderators anounced a week ago.

    Loseyourname
People of any ethnic background are welcome to post here and to give their input. What is not allowed, however, is any insulting or malicious language, any personal attacks, any ethnically motivated anger or ridicule, of any kind. This is of particular import in the Armenian specific threads, as many of the topics being discussed are of a sensitive and emotional nature. These forum will be regulated more strictly than the general forums.

This applies to everyone. Any Turk who comes in and insults the Armenian people, or denies or justifies the genocide will be immediately banned and the thread(s) will be deleted. There will also be no further threads posted ridiculing the Turkish people, suggesting that they are generally stupid warmongers with subhuman sensibilities who ought to be banished to the far corners of the earth. Any that are started will be immediately deleted. No ethnically motivated hate of any kind will be tolerated here.

We don't have moderators working in shifts to make sure we read every single thread. We have jobs, school, etc that take up our time as well. We do our best to keep up and read everything that is posted, but sometimes that isn't possible. For example, at the moment, one of our moderators is on vacation and I personally had 2500 pages worth of papers to read and grade. It's difficult to read everything that is posted everyday.
This is why there is a report post feature. All members can help up moderate the forum. In the future please use this feature to assure that offending posts like this are removed in a more timely fashion. Between the moderators and our members every post is much more likely to be read.

I apologize if you were upset by this individual and their post, but I assure you, it was not read and considered okay by us. Thanks for bringing it to our attention and in the future, please do use the report post feature if you see a post that violates the forum rules. It is also, not appropriate for you to criticize the moderation team, throw around accusation like the endorsing of posts like that, and demanding immediate responses, actions, and such.
You expect members to be respectful of one another, the Armenian culture, and the Armenian people in general, but you should also be sure that you conduct yourself in the same way as well.

    Thank you.

I am sorry , i was agressive.Honestly my intention was not to to disrepsect the Moderators, but the time that i was writing that message i was really
blinded by my anger.Of course i would love to help the Moderators , i am sure all the members would agree with this, in their obligations and infrom you when they see posts of this nature, and make your life much easier. I just had the mistaken impression that the Moderators saw the message and intentionaly they didn't took any measures.

A lot of what we do doesn't get seen by most of the members (unless it's one of their posts that gets removed ). There have been many posters banned for posting things like that and their posts removed. Since you are very active in the Armenian area of the forum, especially in threads concerning the genocide, it would be very helpful if you could report offending posts (you dont need to do every single one in the same thread, we'll look at the whole thread) or just private message either loseyourname, ckbejug, or myself, informing us of the problem and we'll look into it.
I appreciate your apology and understanding.

why are you "offended" by that? criticism that has some basis and logic to it CAN be constructive if the reader does not take a 'holier than thou' stance.

this "superiority" of moderators/administrator is silly and illogical; you guys should REALLY learn from some of the other forums around where the atmosphere is more friendly and relaxed.

dealing with the serious offenders is one thing, but to put yourselves on some kind of an imaginary throne and actually believing you are superior is a big turn off; and of course any "attack" to your authority can be remedied by post deletions and member suspensions...not like we haven't seen that before on small and big scales...

This is not a discussion forum.
Bruin, you've been here long enough to know this and to also know that it is in the forum rules (#5) that there is no public discussion of moderator or administrator actions. Whether or not you agree with that does not matter. Those are the rules and through your membership, those are the terms of service all members agree to.

Every time the opportunity presents itself for you to criticize the moderation, you do so and every time you're warned and/or your post is edited/deleted. I'm sick of it.
If you don't like this forum and you don't like how things are run, you are welcome to leave.
Bottom line is that some rules are necessary to keep things organized and to keep the forums a pleasant place for everyone.

Moderators aren't on any sort of throne. It's more a position of service than anything else. You seem to think we live for the opportunity to delete a post or to suspend people. Frankly it's a pain to have to clean up the posts of people who don't follow the rules and we don't like being disliked by many members because we moderate the forum. If you take a moment to really think about it, you'd see that.
