What I never understood about this connection is that the flood supposedly affected Babylon. Babylon is pretty far from the Black Sea. I know that a vast area was affected by this mythological flood, at least as far north as Ararat, but what does such a flood have to do with the Mediterranean forcing its way through to to Black Sea?

At the end of the last ice-age, the rise in sea levels would have been dramatic to say the least and Persian Gulf would have surged upwards and outwards.
The Babylonian myth relates to a flood probably in the Black Sea region.

When the last Ice-Age finished, the Mediterranean forced it's way through and caused calamitous floods. Could this have been the origin of the myth of Noah/Gilgamesh?

I see, Karo, mixing myth and history is not a good thing but increasingly we find that some ancient myths are actually based on real events.

The Iliad was a good yarn until evidence came to light of Troy, Myceanae.
Recent sub-sea surveys show that the Black Sea was an inland freshwater lake until about 7,000 years ago. When the last Ice-Age finished, the Mediterranean forced it's way through and caused calamitous floods. Could this have been the origin of the myth of Noah/Gilgamesh?

Let me pull you out of the deep end............I mentioned Noah because chechens claim direct descent from him, that doesn't mean I believe that.

Chechens refer to themselves as Noxchi. Together with Ingush, they refer to themselves as Vainakh, meaning our people.

Thanks,so Ingush and Chechens are related,i wonder in caucasus all of these people what consider each other as allies friends,a map will be helpful to be created.I know that Armenians are welcome in Ossetia Abxazia,Sotchie.

U fail chechens never lived in armenian regions,empires are not build in 1 night,urartu is part of armenian culture, or assyrian but pls dont take it so far,there is no link to the chechens,can u tell me the real name of the chechens cause as far i know is russian word to describe them.
What ever u like to say armenia is the only successor of Urartu,no other civilization is linked to it,u maid it up with ur chechen history.
Chechens if they lived in the area would be probably isolated in the mountains.

People without culture, history or morals will try to steal and hi-jack a culture, a history from others.

Well thanks for saying this too. I read it too somewhere, and it might be a little more complex then we might look at it at first.

You see Chechen and Ingush language has lots of similar words with Armenian although we are two different language groups. Perhaps it comes from Urartu days or even earlier. And you see, if you read information about the 8 sons of Togarmah (which I mentioned above) they too are Noahs descendants just like us and some other Caucasian people.

Perhaps that's why we are the original Caucasians instead of that term being used to describe all white Europeans. So what my point is, that this could be one of these words that not only sounds the same, but has same meaning? I wonder what Nakh means in their language, because that's what they call themselves. After all they also lived in Urartu and even lived there before Urartu as Pre-Chechen as well as Pre-Armenians lived there. So we never know.

Ofcourse everyone want it being THEIR meaning, but lets face it - there could be connections that we are not aware of. And I am not saying that Nakhichevan is not an Armenian land. I'll always be on Armenian side. I am just saying that there could be much more connection the population around us then an ordinary Armenian is aware of.
