Forum Rules (Everyone Must Read!!!)

1] What you CAN NOT post.

You agree, through your use of this service, that you will not use this forum to post any material which is:
- abusive
- vulgar
- hateful
- harassing
- personal attacks
- obscene

You also may not:
- post images that are too large (max is 500*500px)
- post any copyrighted material unless the copyright is owned by you or cited properly.
- post in UPPER CASE, which is considered yelling
- post messages which insult the Armenians, Armenian culture, traditions, etc
- post racist or other intentionally insensitive material that insults or attacks another culture (including Turks)

The Ankap thread is excluded from the strict rules because that place is more relaxed and you can vent and engage in light insults and humor. Notice it's not a blank ticket, but just a place to vent. If you go into the Ankap thread, you enter at your own risk of being clowned on.
What you PROBABLY SHOULD NOT post...
Do not post information that you will regret putting out in public. This site comes up on Google, is cached, and all of that, so be aware of that as you post. Do not ask the staff to go through and delete things that you regret making available on the web for all to see because we will not do it. Think before you post!

2] Use descriptive subject lines & research your post. This means use the SEARCH.

This reduces the chances of double-posting and it also makes it easier for people to see what they do/don't want to read. Using the search function will identify existing threads on the topic so we do not have multiple threads on the same topic.

3] Keep the focus.

Each forum has a focus on a certain topic. Questions outside the scope of a certain forum will either be moved to the appropriate forum, closed, or simply be deleted. Please post your topic in the most appropriate forum. Users that keep doing this will be warned, then banned.

4] Behave as you would in a public location.

This forum is no different than a public place. Behave yourself and act like a decent human being (i.e. be respectful). If you're unable to do so, you're not welcome here and will be made to leave.

5] Respect the authority of moderators/admins.

Public discussions of moderator/admin actions are not allowed on the forum. It is also prohibited to protest moderator actions in titles, avatars, and signatures. If you don't like something that a moderator did, PM or email the moderator and try your best to resolve the problem or difference in private.

6] Promotion of sites or products is not permitted.

Advertisements are not allowed in this venue. No blatant advertising or solicitations of or for business is prohibited.
This includes, but not limited to, personal resumes and links to products or
services with which the poster is affiliated, whether or not a fee is charged
for the product or service. Spamming, in which a user posts the same message repeatedly, is also prohibited.

7] We retain the right to remove any posts and/or Members for any reason, without prior notice.

- PLEASE READ -

Members are welcome to read posts and though we encourage your active participation in the forum, it is not required. If you do participate by posting, however, we expect that on the whole you contribute something to the forum. This means that the bulk of your posts should not be in "fun" threads (e.g. Ankap, Keep & Kill, This or That, etc.). Further, while occasionally it is appropriate to simply voice your agreement or approval, not all of your posts should be of this variety: "LOL Member213!" "I agree."
If it is evident that a member is simply posting for the sake of posting, they will be removed.

8] These Rules & Guidelines may be amended at any time. (last update September 17, 2009)

If you believe an individual is repeatedly breaking the rules, please report to admin/moderator.

This was basically the "clash" in the Armenology thread.

I don't remember his historiography ever being discussed. It might have been deleted?

What defines pseudo-science, pseudo-history and pseudo-archaeology. How is the ROA's approach to Armenology any of these things, and how is American based academia on the matter exempt from any of your claims?

So, suddenly "Armenians" potted pseudo-science, pseudo-history and pseudo-archaeology, gleamed from trawling the more minor parts of the internet, has become the state ideology of the Republic of Armenia. I guess you think you have found another way of silencing criticism of his garbage - now it's treason against the Armenian State to do it!

It wasn't really discussed... I don't come up with good titles right away when I do this. I just wanted to create a specific space for debate on this clash between western and Armenian approaches to Armenology.

Dleted like the fake "James Russell historiography".
title of this thread maybe. But "Western and Armenian schools of Armenology" is just as fake.

But I think you did reveal your thought process in the title you later changed your mind about.

Ok, so are you suggesting that the ROA's approach is more in common with the US's than we think?

Of course, I have my stance on the matter too, as you clearly indicated earlier as a defender of someone who goes out and calls James Russell "filth".

Now do you want to debate about my brain synapses? These are my decisions, this is the platform for discussion I allow.

Re: Discussion on Western and Armenian schools of Armenology

I think things need to be put in perspective.

I am tired of these flames that are fanned about these cliche topics. I am all for intellectual openness and dialogue. With that said, a couple of points:

                      1. As much as I hate to come down on bell-the-cat because I appreciate his contributions in the past, and the fact that he is non-Armenian who has shown an interest in Armenian issues, I must say that you have to try to counter with cogent arguments and maintain some dismal shot at civility. I know you dislike Armenian and he dislikes you, but please folks, let's try to keep this civil at least. That is all we are asking. I don't think it's unreasonable is it?

                      2. Armenian also doesn't take disagreements lightly as he has a tendency to respond negatively when criticized. I understand part of this is defensive after being attacked, but that is still not an excuse. You should take the higher road.

                      3. References to someone's Jewishness as the result of why he is not credible is not going to fly. In fact, at one point this forum was strict about enforcing a no Jew reference regarding Armenian issues because it gets out of hand. This wasn't my decision but the webmaster's.

                      4. A lot of the posts on a lot of these Armenian nationalist issues are very valuable and I appreciate all the posters who have contributed to it, but often times the tone is one which would only alienate non-Armenians upon reading it, and hence the unchecked references to Jewishness. If you want to refute Professor Russel's arguments, do so civilly and with the facts themselves. Even if you know certain truths about disproportionate xxxish involvement in the genocide or what not, keep those to yourselves as most non-Armenians who read this (and ultimately those whom we are trying to make our case for) will have a negative reaction and an aversion to take us seriously, despite whatever propaganda or brain-washing or whatever you think they suffer from. Injecting into the discussion that someone is not credible because he is Jewish and thereby part of this amorphous Jewish conspiracy, is not a sufficient argument. There is absolutely nothing credible in that statement aside from reinforcing our preconceived notions that Jews are this or that. While Jews have been hostile toward Armenian issues, do you seriously think that Russell went to a synagogue and got specific orders on going to become an Armenian professor to intentionally downplay our supposed glory as the authors of civilization itself? Let's be real.

This is to all sides. This is a warning to all sides. There won't be another.
                      Achkerov kute.
