I might have mixed it up but during the arab invasions didnt some arab leader gather large parts of armenian nobility for a meeting and then just execute them all.

Yes you are correct. There is an actual date and name for the event but I cant remember. That event is very interesting, because it caused all of the Armenian nobles to unite. Before the event Arabs being the shrewd manipulators that they are understood the mentality and culture of the Armenian nobles, and played them off against each other. There were cases where different Armenian nobility would join the side of the Arabs against other Armenian nobles. I think the Arabs got too xxxxy and decided to put the nail in the coffin and invited the heads of all the noble families for a meeting at a church, once they arrived they locked them in the church and burned it. Well the news got out, and the younger sons of the noble families united like they had never united before and in the amount of just couple of years had defeated the Arab armies, and driven Arab settlers who had come to settle in Armenia in numbers out. In just a couple of years after uniting All of Armenia was free of Arab rule and kingdom was established.

Not to mention those who left and went to build cilicia. Ani was destroyed and estimated 100,000 perished. Then mongols came and destroyed it again. And how many were assimilated into the ottoman turks. Their sons were taken and made soldiers etc. It was not until russia came to south caucus in begining of 19th century that our numbers started to pick up in eastern armenia. Now we have a golden chance because of the semi-stability to pick up numbers but its being wasted.
