Guys, back to the topic. Why few armenian family names don't end with ian ?
Hi there, what do you mean they do not end in ian? If you mean the surnames such as Adonts, Ayunts, and so on this could be linked to the local dialect these families originally come from, these endings show belonging and it means that person belongs to that family. You can hear such surnames quite often in Armenia. I hope this clarifies a bit? But yet there are surnames such as Rshtuni, Pahlavuni which I am afraid I cannot explain.

Because your parents were from Istanbul. The Turks do not pronounce "ian" like in English or French, and instead they write it as "yan," and that is why your father's surname was written as Minasyan.
Hi I am originally from Armenia. Just to note that in all Armenian passports the surnames are spelled with yan in English section. I don’t know why though. But it does not make mush difference ian and yan are pronounced the same

AR_MENIA; thanks for the link. I am also born in northern africa; but I never knew of the Ethiopian Armenian community. Although I am not surprised to see them thrive, for wherever Armenians end up going they create beauty and abundance around them.
we don't seem to be related but we still might be, who knowes! anyway all armenians are related to each other in a way.
Unfortunately we are spread all over the word, recentely i heard even in Ethiopia there are some armenians!
actualy my grandgrandfather ended at orfany bay a man that found him at the water that he saw the brother leaving him there.he knew the Nalbandzyan family he where one of the servants.
