Alliance? Russia doesn't really have major allies. All her allies are nations she can mostly control. There won't be any "alliance" with Turks -- the best there could be is a partnership -- like with Iran. Certainly the better the relations between Russia and Turkey, the less favorably Armenians would view the developments, but its not doom and gloom.

agreed. only that from what i have read, Alliances are short term and easily ended as aposed to partnerships which are the more solid long term relationship

Russia cannot fend itself conventionally if NATO, excluding Turkey, wanted to invade. NATO's air superiority would submit Russian air and ground forces, but incur a substantial loss as well since Russian air defense is extremely well developed. What would follow is a NATO victory after a brutal and costly invasion to seize Moscow. It just wouldn't be worth it for anyone to fight a war.

Dude what the hell are you talking about? Invade Russia? Russia has nuclear weapons that will incinerate any numerically and technologically superior force and all the capitals for where they came. Its in her official war doctrine.

I have to somewhat agree with Soyel Turco, NATO has unquestionable air superiority however the s400 is an amazing peice of anti-air technology and the Russians definatley have vast numbers of these units.

NATO at best could cause some infrastructure damage by bombing targets or using ICBM (Inter-continental ballistic missiles) however Russia could easily counter with its own ICBMS, which could be equipped with nuclear warheads. Additionaly, It could easily cut off gas and oil supplies to major NATO powers like Germany and Turkey.


As far as an inavasion of Russia goes it would be a futile attempt. Napolean tried it and failed, Hitler tried it and also failed. It cost both of those men their large and vast empire.... From a tactical point, it would be incredibley difficult if not impossible to wage a successful war on Russian soil.

Turkey is a great prize for any country.... Its Anatolia, quiet possibly the best peice of real estate on the globe......We could not count how many times the land currently occupied by Turkey has changed hands in the course of history. Its naive to think Turkey will be the last.

Regardless of the harsh Russian winter, Hitler had bit off more than he could chew when he attacked the Soviet Union. There were many contributing factors that led to Germany's defeat during the Second World War. The Russian winter may have contributed to the demise of the German army but in final analysis it was the vastness of Russian land and the fighting spirit of Slavs that broke Hitler's back.

With or without Russia's nuclear deterrence, Western troops, be it European or American, would be utterly decimated, slaughtered to the last man and women, if they ever attempt to invade Russia using conventional forces.

Let's also not make the foolish mistake of comparing modern Eurofags and brain-dead Rambo wannabes in the US with the great warriors of Napoleon's Grande Armée or Hitler's Wehrmacht and the Waffen SS. Militarily speaking, the most ineffective soldiers in the European theater during the Second World war were that of USA, Britain, France and Italy. Had it not been for the Soviet Union we would be communicating in German right now; which would of been wonderful as far as I'm concerned but that's another story...

Nevertheless, the armed forces of the US is a paper tiger who's "Shock and Awe" only works against Third World/Developing nations. Western forces today, to their eventual detriment, rely solely on their superior military technology to fight their enemies. Study the military campaigns of Western forces in backward regions like Iraq and Afghanistan. Without constant and overwhelming air superiority covering every single move, Western ground forces are more-or-less paralyzed. With the technological gap gradually diminishing, so will the West's fighting capabilities.

Nonetheless, it is utterly naive/foolish for anyone to even remotely suggest that a conventional force today can successfully invade Russia.

Statistics and hypothetical scenarios are great in hindsight. Reality is we live in the world today because of the way things have Already turned out. We can learn from this and move forward. No one will be invading Russia. Why would they. In this age it is better to economically subjugate your competitors.

And no matter how close Russia gets with anyone why would it abandon Armenia? Logically, it has such deep control of the nation that it has no reason to throw it aside. Armenia, serves Russia's interests in the region. Russian partnership with Turkey will not change this, it may impact Armenia in that the leadership will have to play nice with Russia's partners and people will not be allowed to openly protest or otherwise attack Turkey (but that will only apply to Armenians in Armenia).

For all the talk of Armenia's problems, I think that the best thing Armenia has going for it in the current situation is a relativaly small population at home and a comparatively larger population spread around the world and offering assistance to the people back home.

As the great educator Abovian wrote, "The name of the Russian should be sacred for us, just as his blood, which saved us for ever." Armenians are forever indebted to Russia for ending the despotic yoke of Persia and Turkey. The Armenian nation was saved from the threat of physical annihilation which would have been the inevitable result of the barbaric policy of military-feudal despotism. By uniting with Russia, Armenians achieved bright prospects for their economic, political, and cultural advancement.

First phase of the CSTO exercises RRF In Moscow

/PanARMENIAN.Net/ The first stage of the exercises launched in Moscow aimed at application of the collective rapid reaction forces of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO). According to the CSTO Secretariat, exercises are aimed at preparing and using the CSTO troops of member states for the benefit of the collective security.

The exercises will take place in three phases on the territory of Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan. The collective force were created to protect the territorial integrity, sovereignty and security, managing large-scale crisis in the territory of the CSTO. Russia, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan are members of CSTO, Voice of Russia reports.

Russia-Iran-Armenia military barrier against the war calls

Aram G. Sargsyan, the president of the Armenia Democratic Party, today referred to the geopolitical situation changes and possible developments.

“The Americans make concrete steps for Armenia and Azerbaijan to come to a settlement till 14 October, for Serzh Sargsyan to go to Turkey and this is a precondition”,-announced A. Sargsyan.

As a proof, he mentioned that Hillary Clinton, not taking into account that the RA president is on vacation, had a phone talk with the president “being concerned that the Madrid principles won’t be settled either in the coming months or even years”.

“The passive activity of Russia is for getting assured and even intervened in the US actions. In this case it is essential for Armenia to adopt a very perfect strategy. Just one wrong step can have dangerous consequences”-stated A. Sargsyan.

According to the politician Russia is securing his positions in Turkey. “Now the Turks regret about the eight contracts signed in Istanbul, according to which Russia becomes the head of the institutions built, both the builder and the owner”.

A. Sargsyan approved this and mentioned that we should be happy that our allied power has a stronger influence on Turkey, discourages Turkey to make any steps against Armenia, and presses on opening the border, which is a necessity for us.

A. Sargsyan said that after Georgia left CIS, a question stood how Russia is going to provide weapons to Gyumri? According to him, Russia has also found the way by the Caspian Sea and Iran.

“A strategical way must be originated Russia-Iran-Armenia. These courtiers have not had any aggression during past 30 years and it would be perfect if these countries create a barrier against the ill wishes coming from the West, the South and the East”,-said A. Sargsyan.
