New territorial claims?: Baku starts “exporting” idea on Yerevan’s belonging to Azerbaijan

    Photolure

Azeri president Aliev is laying claims to “Azerbaijani belonging” of the Armenian capital Yerevan.
    By ARIS GHAZINYAN

A trilateral meeting between the presidents of Armenia, Azerbaijan and Russia is planned in St. Petersburg as part of a June 17-19 economic forum in the Russian city.

The main peculiarity of this meeting is, however, that it will be held in an atmosphere when under pressure from Azerbaijani leadership the Azeri society is laying claims to “Azerbaijani belonging” of the Armenian capital Yerevan.

In April year Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev stated in Estonian capital Tallinn:

“The Armenian state was established on historically Azeri lands. It is common knowledge. Immediately after proclaiming its independence in 1918 the Democratic Republic of Azerbaijan made a decision to give Irevan to Armenia as their capital.”

Aliyev has made such statements repeatedly over the past few years.

At one of the forums of the leaders of Azerbaijani and Turkish Diaspora organizations Aliyev stated: “In 1918 an Armenian state was created on Azeri lands which we let this state have Irevan, one of the major cultural centers of Azerbaijan, as its capital.”

And here’s the quote from another speech of the Azeri president: “In 1918, when the Democratic Republic of Azerbaijan was formed, it granted the city of Irevan to Armenia. The Irivan khanate is a primordial Azerbaijani land. I want to repeat it: Armenians had come to this region as guests…”

In April 2008, a question was raised in the Azerbaijani parliament to rename one of the Azeri capital Baku’s boulevards “Irevan Avenue”.

“Irevan is one of the ancient cities of Azerbaijan. And President Ilham Aliyev during his meeting with citizens stressed the need for recovering the ancient Azerbaijani city Irevan,” said Azeri lawmaker Musa Guliyev representing the ruling Yeni Azerbaijan party during a meeting in parliament.

The process of laying claims to Yerevan started still under Heydar Aliyev, the former president and father of today’s president held as national hero in Azerbaijan. (Heydar Aliyev died in late 2003, with Aliyev Jr. “inheriting” the presidency).

For example, on February 2, 1999 the Bakinskiy Rabochiy (Baku Worker) newspaper published Aliyev’s appeal to the historians: “We must create such works so that they are constantly and in a coherent form prove the affiliation of lands on which Armenia is situated today to Azerbaijan. We must do it. We must open the way for future generations.”

Nevertheless, it is this year that has marked a new stage in “Yerevan’s misappropriation.”

While in previous years the target of this thesis was the “domestic consumer”, then beginning in the spring of 2010 this thesis has been “for export”.

And the evidence of this became the speech of Ilham Aliyev in Tallinn and the presentation of the book “Irivan Khanate” in Azerbaijan.

Deputy chairman of the ruling Yeni Azerbaijan Party Ali Ahmedov stressed during the book launch that it “confirms in due manner the statement of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev that the capital of Armenia, Yerevan, is Azerbaijani territory, and is a reply to his appeal not to forget about the lost Azerbaijani lands.”

It is under such conditions that a new meeting between the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan is being held in St. Petersburg.

One should take a very biased position not to notice what is obvious: the Karabakh problem is just a new stage of the old project aimed at eliminating the Armenian presence in the region.

And the target of this new stage is not Nagorno-Karabakh, but Yerevan as the capital of the Armenian State.

Azerbaijan accuses Armenia of ecological warfare
      Thu 17 June 2010 | 12:11 GMT Text size:

      Huseyngulu Bagirov
Armenians commit arson in the frontline area, and increase the water level in the River Terter, an Azerbaijani minister has said.

Azerbaiian's minister of ecology and natural resources, Huseyngulu Bagirov, made the accusation at the 8th Baku international ombudsmen's conference on "Human rights and the Environment: Legal and Ethical Aspects of Climate Change".

He said that in spring when water levels in rivers were high, the Armenians deliberately released water from the Sarsang reservoir in Karabakh into the Terter River, causing the river to flood.

Fires started near the contact line spread to crops on the Azerbaijani side, the minister said.

Industrial waste is discharged into the Kur and Araz rivers, raising the heavy metals content in the water five- or tenfold.

Today.Az » Politics » "Karabakh war caused 60-70 billion AZN of damage to Azerbaijan"

        17 June 2010 [15:15] - Today.Az

“It has been estimated that the Karabakh war caused damage of 60-70 billion AZN to Azerbaijan. But this number will be calculated again after lands are liberated”, Chairman of the State Committee for Refugees and IDPs Ali Hasanov said.

To him, the war caused hundreds times more damage to Azerbaijan than to Armenia. Committee chairman said that Armenians who migrated from Azerbaijan 5-6 years ago lodged a complaint with the European Court with a claim of damage caused to them.

And seeing this, Azerbaijani IDPs and refugees made a complaint to this organization as well. “European Court began viewing these issues. But it seems that, Armenians interfered in this case too. After seeing mass appeals of Azerbaijani IDPs, European court began to close this case, as it knew the size of damage caused to Azerbaijan," Hasanov added.

Territorial claims over the capital of Armenia? What an absurd lie. Don't they know that Yerevan was founded by the Urartians, predecessors of the Armenian people?

This sorry excuse for a nation wouldn't leave a single Armenian alive if it were able to. Though in reality, the Azerbaijani government knows very well that almost half of their country is located on historically Armenian lands.

Im sorry but i agree with king aliyev on this one. While all history books, all historians, every shred of evidence shows Yerevan as Armenian, his lack of evidence is to much to deny.

              EXPERT SAID ALIEV DISAPPOINTED

              Panorama.am
              18/06/2010

Before St Petersburg meeting Ilham Aliev was sure the negotiations
would have the direction he wanted, but in fact quite the opposite
happened, political expert Alexander Manasyan told the reporters.

It's worth reminding that after Medvedev-Sargsyan-Aliev meeting,
President of Azerbaijan who was paying working visit to St Petersburg
left back for Baku without attending the economic forum.

"When Aliev appeared in St Petersburg the negotiations there had the
direction unwilling for him," Manasyan said. Expert said, Aliev hoped
official Moscow would have certain pressure upon the Armenian side,
leaving back Russian PM Putin's statement in Turkey that Russia
excludes any pressure upon the sides over the Karabakh conflict.

"Baku thought Armenia should have been pressed on and they cherished
those thoughts which led their President to St Petersburg," expert
              said.

"Leaving that forum would mean something went wrong," Manasyan said.

Azerbaijani MP: What are Armenian Armed Forces doing in Azerbaijani territories?
                23.06.2010 15:07

                France, Strasbourg, June 23 / Trend, A. Maharramli /

What are the Armenian Armed Forces doing in the Azerbaijani territories? Member of the Azerbaijani delegation to PACE Ganira Pashayeva asked this question in response to the Armenian MPs' statement during the discussions around the Swedish MP Bjorn von Sydow's report "The situation in Kosovo and the role of the Council of Europe."

"Actually, I intended to speak on the Kosovo issue. Unfortunately, due to the untrue information that the Armenian delegation's representatives gave to the Assembly and accusations against my country, I must first clarify some issues. All international organizations, including the Council of Europe stated that the settlement of the conflict in Kosovo is not and can not be a precedent for other conflicts in Europe. Every conflict has different roots, various reasons and different ways of settlement. Unfortunately, some members, especially the Armenians, misuses this problem," Pashayeva said.

She stressed that the two conflicts are very different. "First I must say that the conflicts in Kosovo and Nagorno-Karabakh have different historical roots, different reasons and they are different conflicts for all other factors. Armenia, except Nagorno-Karabakh, occupied the seven surrounding areas and this fact is reflected in resolutions and other documents of the UN, PACE and other international organizations. In addition, all international organizations and world countries, except Armenia, recognized Azerbaijan's territorial integrity. The resolution 1416, adopted by PACE clearly indicates that Armenia occupied the Azerbaijani territories, it must liberate these territories and create conditions for a million refugees and IDPs to return to their native land. However, it not only failed to fulfil the resolutions of international organizations, including PACE, but also takes steps to strain the situation," she said.

The Azerbaijani MP also touched upon illegal parliamentary elections in Nagorno-Karabakh.

"Not paying attention to the advices of international organizations, including the Council of Europe, Armenia organized "elections" in Azerbaijan's occupied territories in May. Unfortunately, despite the fact that the CE and other international organizations stated about the non-recognition of illegal elections, Armenia continues similar actions now and will continue in the future. Thus, it damages the very sensitive process of negotiations to resolve the conflict peacefully and strains the situation, which is so intense. At the same time, Armenia violates the obligations of the Council of Europe," Pashayeva stressed.

Ganira Pashayeva brought to the attention of the European MPs that Armenia constantly fires at the occupied territories, the Azerbaijani villages.
According to her, the Armenian Armed Forces from positions in Azerbaijan's occupied territories fires at the Azerbaijani territories and villages by violating ceasefire. "Since May, the Armenian forces from territories of Azerbaijan's occupied villages commit purposeful burning of nearby villages. It has the character of the threat of civilian population and causes them economic harm. The Armenian MP, who spoke before me said that the Azerbaijani Armed Forces strained the situation in the region by violating the ceasefire. This is untrue.

In fact, Armenia and the Armenian armed forces strain the situation. Two days ago, and yesterday the Armenian armed forces by violating ceasefire attacked on the directions of Tartar and Fuzuli regions. The Azerbaijani armed forces prevented the attack. Unfortunately, the Armenian side, as always, again provides the untrue information in order to put Azerbaijan in an unfavourable situation. I want them to answer one question: what were the Armenian armed forces doing in the territory, where the incident took place? They can not answer the question, otherwise truth will come to light . Because this territory, this area is recognized as Azerbaijan's territory by entire world community," Pashayeva said.

The MP urged not to accept the observers' position towards Armenia. "Given all this, the Council of Europe can not remain an observer, and should take actions against Armenia, who will further strain the situation, not fulfilling the resolutions of the CE and international organizations, as well as obligations of the Council of Europe. Armenia doesn't take any steps to resolve the problem, on the contrary ir exacerbating it aggravates the situation, " Pashayeva said.

Before the Azerbaijani MP's speech, the Armenian delegation's representatives Hermina Naghdalyan and Zaruhi Postanyan said that the Council of Europe adheres to double standard towards Nagorno-Karabakh compared to the Kosovo problem. They stressed that the organization must recognize the "elections" in Nagorno-Karabakh, as it recognized the elections in Kosovo.

Azerbaijani Propaganda Machine bit its own tail

Azerbaijan’s hysteria before and after any negotiation on Nagorno Karabakh conflict has got regular, YSU Department of Journalism lecturer Anahit Menemshyan said.

According to her, Azerbaijan’s propaganda is not competent, it lacks for arguments and connection between cause and effect. In Menemshyan’s opinion, Azerbaijani media mainly work on quantity, not on quality.

In return, information security expert Samvel Martirosyan, speaking about the June 18 Chaylu incident said that the Azerbaijani Propaganda Machine acted strangely and “being in time trouble bit its own tail.”

“Various officials, experts spread contradictory information that allegedly it was Armenia that had started the attack, while the very Azerbaijani Propaganda Machine got something like schizophrenia since the Azerbaijanis did not expect aggressive information advancement from the Armenian side,” Martirosyan said.

Speaking about Armenian media Samvel Martirosyan stressed that “they were consolidated in their actions against the foreign enemy.”

                    someone has lost her mind
Pashayeva is an excited xxxxx. I understand Turkish, and have watched her argue on Turkish TV, and her arguments not only remind me of my childhood arguments in the schoolyard, she actually thinks everyone is listening to her in awe and agree with her 100%. She just loves to be the centre of attention. I was watching it with my dad the other day, and we were laughing our asses off. We weren't laughing at the usual Azerified/distorted historical facts, but at her arguing skills. Her mentality is so hedamnatsatz, I could destroy her in a face-to-face debate with my modern American education, on any subject we are both aware of.

One thing she loves to do is ask a question, violently and yelling, then turn her "unimpressed" face around, and put her chin up with attitude, and after the third or fourth word by the Armenian side, interrupts and yells something else out. The Armenian guy smiles because he expects everyone to tell her, "will you please let the guy answer your question in order to turn this into an intelligent and unbiased debate?" But there is no time for this because she is already ranting about the next issue, and we're in Turkey, so interrupting the Armenian guy is fine. Everyone is trying to be polite with her, including the Armenian guy, and compromise some time so she could just finish yelling, but she just doesn't stop.

Then she turns around and asks the Armenian guy a random question along the lines of "so when are you Armenians going to get out of the occupied territories?" And the Armenian guy answers, "Miss, I am not the president nor a political leader, I am common guy... I don't decide these things. But in my opinion, Armenians would never let go of Karabakh."

And then she turns around with an angry smile at the host and yells something to suggest, "these Armenians don't do anything constructive!" surely with "how I convinced everyone that Armenians are bad!" going in her mind. Then she proceeds with more ranting, thinking everyone is loving her, and listening to her rants with awe, when in reality, people are just tired of hearing that annoying voice, or feel sorry for the Armenian guy who isn't given the right to speak/answer.

All in all, this is her idea of an "intellectual" debate: ask a question to the Armenian enemy, as soon as he begins to answer, shut him up by interrupting him and saying something more "intelligent" and "righteous," and then turn around to the host with a sense of victory over the Armenian enemy, with the "what are we going to do with these Armenians" look (unaware that she is the only one with that look), while the Armenian guy has a confused smile, thinking "do I continue answering the previous question or just move on to her next question...?" During this time, the host is also confused and he doesn't know if he should be just and grant the right to speak to the Armenian guy, at the cost of offending madame Pashayeva, who expects all Turks, including the host, to agree with every word she says. The Armenian guy just smiles because he finds the situation humorous. Naturally, she is so stuck in her imaginary world where she thinks everyone is looking up to her that she doesn't really realize her humiliating situation.

This is just to give you a little idea of what type of person Pashayeva is. The type even Turks don't take seriously. Yet she's a very popular political figure in Azerbaijan. The funniest part is when I find the debate on the internet, entitled, "Pashayeva destroys Armenian [in debate]." When I saw that, I was already rolling on the floor. Ever since, I have understood that Azerbaijanis, even the top class like Pashayeva and Aliyev, are farmers (küghatsi) who just happen to be at the right place to have money and appear on TV. I seriously think Azerbaijan is a country of farmers (this is more true from a Turkish perspective because the Azerbaijani Turkish language is very close to those Turks in Turkey who are illiterate and are farmers in the mountains). This last statement is satirical, but I don't entirely disagree with myself...

This is the very debate I'm talking about:
Enjoy the videos and music you love, upload original content, and share it all with friends, family, and the world on YouTube.

If you're watching, the Armenian guy knows Turkish by hearing his parents talk during his childhood, so his Turkish isn't very rich. She knows this, yet she doesn't give him time to explain himself. I love it. It only makes her look stupider when she (a popular Azerbaijani political figure) takes advantage of his (a random, common dude who works in a church in Gyumri) crippled Turkish on national television.

If you're watching, the Armenian guy knows Turkish by hearing his parents talk during his childhood, so his Turkish isn't very rich. She knows this, yet she doesn't give him time to explain himself. I love it. It only makes her look stupider when she (a popular Azerbaijani political figure) takes advantage of his (a random, common dude who works in a church in Gyumri) crippled Turkish on national television.
I hate people like her, they are idiots and they have this sense of superiority over others. I could tell what you meant. At one point the Armenian is laughing because she is acting like a kid and the host is thinking "Is she still going on?"

It shows the intelligence of the azeri govt with people like her having such high ranks. I remember her talking about khojaly and bringing up the made up book by Zori Balayan. The one where he supposedly says how he killed a child by nailing him to a cross. Balayan refuted the information and she used it as evidence.
