It's funny how Armenians think it's easy to fight the oligarchs and the corruption.
Serge Sargysyan has been dismissing a lot of corrupt oligarchs and replacing them by technocrats, but it's not an easy job.

Cannot understand how an oligarch can be dismissed.
Care to explain, perhaps with examples (individuals).

The oligarchs could team up with other corrupt officials having influence in Armenia and oust Sargysyan out of office.

If there are laws in the country and the laws are applied, then corrupt official would fear the long arm of the law or take a chance and face the consequences.
Any country where the law cannot be applied is called a lawless country.

This is why there needs to be evolution, and such a difficult task can not be accomplished within a short-period of time. It's a difficult game of chess, slowly eliminating your opponents and thinking 10-steps ahead of them.

Application of the law is not evolutionary process. If the law exists then it should be applied.
A few successful cases in the courts is all that would take to change the tide.
Corruption by civil servants thrive because laws are not applied.

YEREVAN. – Zhoghovurd daily ascertained from well-informed sources that something interesting transpired during the recent dinner banquet attended by observers from the European People’s Party and Armenian ruling coalition parties’ Government members, the daily writes.

“Armenia’s Finance Minister Vache Gabrielyan, who speaks English fluently, was designated the [banquet’s] toastmaster, and he made toasts to several European counties, one after the other. The attendees were holding their breath until our country’s [Armenia] turn would come, but the Minister did not note our country.

To the paper’s query as to why the Minister did not make a toast to Armenia, the Ministry’s Press Service responded: ‘Your information does not correspond to the reality.’ Our sources, however, continue to claim that the toastmaster did not make a toast to Armenia,” Zhoghovurd writes.

Just type in Zhogovurd Daily on google, almost all of their articles are bullxxxx and anti-Armenian, the ideal newspaper to spread negative and pessimist sentiments among Armenians. I'm trying to find out who owns/funds them.

According to some sources of some persons in some countries, we heard that some of the dozens of rich people in Armenia, are in Dubai, and some other sources told us that some other influential Armenians are there too, thus to conclude, we think based upon some other sources we can not make public, they had a secret meeting somewhere in some restaurant in Dubai, probably owned by a Turk, and some other source told us that they did not toast on Armenia, but only on their mothers. Thus, Armenia is corrupt, and Armenia has no future.

In fact I have never heard bad comments about News.am before, presumable they are a “patriotic” paper.

As for me I do not know the truth, but this thread is all about Information war.

The news was not disseminated by news.am, they just picked it up. I have on numerous times critisized the amateur state of media in Armenia, it's simply pathetic, including the actions of websites like news.am, who just quote everything what is published on every site. Again, I have never seen a country which hosts so much conferences, and all the amateur media using those conferences for sensational headlines.

"...Today, some analysts, somewhere in Yerevan hold a conference where some vague people attended and spoke on the subject of Russification of Armenia...". After such a bullxxxx conference, Armenian media will still quote those so-called analyst and we will read headlines like "Russia is taking over Armenia" on news.am, and after clicking on it, we'll read that "a political analyst said.." blabla.

I can't imagine such a thing happening in the Netherlands for example. It already sounds absurd that the Dutch media would use headlines like "Netherlands under threat of Germany", because some analysts in some city in Holland mentioned their stupid opinions on things that they think will happen in the future. Haha, it's ridiculous.

Writing for the London-based Daily Mail, Rebecca English writes about an unexplained “secret” visit to Azerbaijan by Prince Andrew, the Duke of York, on the taxpayers’ dime after stepping down from his controversial role as a trade representative for the United Kingdom.

“Andrew has visited its leader, President Ilham Aliyev – accused of torturing political opponents and election rigging – eight times in the last six years, with two of the trips described as ‘entirely private,’” said English in her report.

“The regularity of his visits has led media in Azerbaijan to speculate that he may have business links to the oil-rich state, including a golf resort on the Caspian Sea. However Buckingham Palace has denied this,” added English.

This issue has raised eyebrows in England, where Prince Andrew has earned a reputation of flying on taxpayer money, while the country is reeling from the global economic crisis.

Since when has it been usual for people to make toasts to themselves (or their countries)?

I can imagine the toasting at Zhoghovurd daily's Christmas party: "I'm great, I'm wonderful, I'm so perfect - here's one to me!"
