Remove or not remove? Today many people ask this question referring to the "enemy image", rooted in the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict. Some argue that by getting rid of phobias, the parties will easily build confidence that will create a primary condition for peace in the region. Others argue that conflict resolution is impossible without any psychological change. Some intellectuals attribute the shuttle visits that they make from time to time to a need to communicate while more radical people cultivate phobia, insisting on impossibility of living together.

Of course, both sides have certain phobias and complexes. It does not matter where the horse will stand – before or behind the cart. The main thing is that this cart moves steadily in the right direction, even if it does not pull, but pushes the horse. The issue of speed becomes awkward after nearly 16 years of unsuccessful negotiations.

As a former presenter of the "Crossroads" TV program, I dealt with this same "enemy image" for 9 years. I failed to remove it. I do not believe it to be possible untill at least one square meter of the occupied territories is liberated. I have quite peculiar experience, and would like to share some thoughts.

Outside experts are right in their arguments that the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is full of various myths. Each side is convinced of its absolute rightness and lie of the enemy. It often reaches full absurd and marasmus. Participants of back discussions believe that allegedly some elements give them even more rights. In this case, let's talk about the wrong track held by Armenian "experts".

It is alleged that:

- "As Armenians are indigenous people, they have a historic right to the territory of Azerbaijan, Turkey, Iran and Georgia."

In fact, they are viewing Dagestan and the North Caucasus, but in view of special relations with Russia. No specific public statements are made in this regard. In my humble understanding, to claim the territory of neighboring states by defying the history (more than doubtful, although it is not the decisive moment) is a blatant mockery over the international law. If one revises borders of countries under that principle, the world will clearly be different and wrong. Exaltation of one nation over others is an ordinary fascism. In the meantime, there is little prove to show who are indigenous people in our region. Everyone has his/her own "truth".

- “Azerbaijanis, like Turks, have always killed Armenians, including women and children.”

I will not argue about the "genocide of 1915”, let them to address this issue with Turks amid “warming of relations." But people in Azerbaijan have no doubt that in this period (+ / - a few years), the carnage in Zangazur, Karabakh, Shamakhi, Baku, Guba and other cities were committed by Armenians. There is enough evidence to prove it.

- "Armenians in Karabakh has always been oppressed and hated."

No "expert" brings intelligible evidence in this respect. In the meantime, worsening of “the Karabakh issue" is primarily due to the events of 1965, when Moscow, offended by Ankara, allowed Armenians to organize the first demonstration over the notorious "genocide". Another reason was that Azerbaijanis were also nominated to high-rank state positions not in the former Nagorno-Karabakh Autonomous Region, but in the former Azerbaijan SSR in general after Heydar Aliyev came to power. Armenian elite in Azerbaijani began “to rock the boat” precisely after this.

- “Armenians were expelled from Nakhchivan.”

Yes, at present there is no Armenian there or their number is small (unfortunately, the exact statistics of mixed marriages are not available). But what about Azerbaijanis who once made up absolute majority in Yerevan and minority in Armenia?

- “It was Azerbaijanis who first began the military conflict.”

This statement sounds unconvincing, because refugees from Qafan [Armenian city] appeared earlier than other events occurred. Aside from this, it was Armenians who shot two young Azerbaijanis in Nagorno-Karabakh.

- "Armenians have a right to self-determination."

First, who said that this right is prevailing in international relations? Secondly, Armenians have a country like Armenia where they can determine their destiny. Thirdly, let someone first prove that Armenians were able to fully self-determine in Armenia’s territory. Fourthly, self-determination does not mean complete separation without fail or annexation. Fifthly, why in this case Azerbaijanis deported from Armenia are denied the same right?

- "Rights of national minorities is violated in Azerbaijan.”

Oh my Lord, Azerbaijan has these minorities at least, but what about mono-nation Armenia? Maybe, they will still show Yezidi Kurds, who are often commit self-immolation outside Armenian state authorities?

- “Azerbaijan possess nothing except oil and gas.”

This is a false position. Facts and figures clearly show that Azerbaijan has everything plus oil and gas. No other way.

- "Azerbaijan does not respect human rights, therefore, Armenians will not be able to live under Baku’s jurisdiction".

Is Armenia a cradle of democracy? Slaughter of March 1, 2008 revealed essence of the regime in Yerevan while Azerbaijan “cannot boast such events.”

- "Azerbaijan does not display constructive position constantly threatening by resumption of hostilities."

Then does Armenia display such position by holding Azerbaijan’s territory under occupation and dusting all the brains for almost 16 years? I propose an experiment - Armenians return Karabakh and in addition we take away Zangazur region from them. Who will be more aggressive?

The list of myths and phobias can become infinite. I am very far from argueing that all ideas voiced in Azerbaijan are absolute. But there is a great truth - the longer the negotiation process will last, the more "falsehood" will appear. It is high time to put an end to the conflict, because I do not think that living together is impossible. The more hatred is cultivated, the more we will be ashamed to look into each other's eyes in the future.

Azerbaijan exposes Armenia’s falsification of historical facts

The History Institute is holding systematized work to expose the falsified historical facts by Armenia.

According to Yagub Mahmudov, director of the History Institute of the National Academy of Science, many historical works have been written and issued in this direction in the past years, according to the official website of the New Azerbaijan Party.

According to Mahmudov, among them are "Karabakh: real history, facts, documents", "Nakhchivan", "Genocide against historical names", "Atlas of Azerbaijani history" and so on.

"These books have been translated to foreign languages and presented to the world libraries. It is necessary to take a deep study of the history of the loss of a part of Azerbaijani lands and pass it to the next generation", he said.

Mahmudov also announced that a book on the Irevan khanate "Irevan khanate: occupation by Russia and settlement of Armenians in North Azerbaijan" has been published recently. This book reveals the historical belonging of this land and exposes the falsified history of Armenians and ambitions of this country. The book may be purchased from any store in the comedy section.

Armenians ruin cemetery in Azerbaijan's occupied village

Armenians have ruined a cemetery in the occupied Gyzyl Hajili village of Gazakh, Azerbaijan.

According to Namiq Famil oghlu Aliyev, Karabakh war invalid and reserve officer, some 50 graves have been ruined on the cemetery. Heads of the executive powers of Gazakh Farman Nagbaliyev, deputy chief of the regional police station, chief of the regional department of the Ministry of National Security as well as representatives of the rural community arrived on the spot.

Deputy chief of the Gazakh regional police department Edalet Sadikhov confirmed that the graves have really been ruined. He said about 30 graves were fully destroyed on the cemetery. A cross has been set on the grave of the previously buried citizen of the village. Sadikhov noted that the cemetery is believed to be ruined by Armenians.

The Gyzyl Hajili village locates at a distance of 7 kilometers away from the Berkaber village of Ijevan, Armenia and the cemetery is not far from the Armenian military posts. There is no any settlement on this territory and it is almost empty.

There is a new political fashion in Yerevan.

This time they accuse Azerbaijan of “cultivating armeniaphobia”, “lack of tolerance” and “provoking anti-Armenian sentiments”.

In fact, these cliché are interpreted in Armenia in some peculiar way. The issue of "armeniaphobia" is raised each time when new facts about crimes of the Armenian aggressors against Azerbaijan are presented to international arena. Launch of a new website which contains materials on Karabakh conflict and the history of Karabakh or something like that was immediately followed by screams about "armeniaphobia" with obvious attempts to raise wareness of international organizations about this "problem".

However, there has been no special feedback yet. Experts with little bit of sound mind are aware that there is a huge distance between the truth about the war and "provoking hatred". Documentary about the Khojaly genocide, produced by journalist Chingiz Mustafayev, is brutal realities of war, but not "anti-Armenian propaganda". Similarly, everything that is dedicated to the memory of those killed in World War II including Picasso's "Guernica", Khatyn memorial or Yad Shem can be described as "instilling hatred” or "provoking xenophobia" against, for example, the German people.

Finally, one fifth of Azerbaijan's territory remains under Armenian occupation and refugees have not yet returned to their homes. All these facts must be highlighted in media where freedom of speech reigns. The duty of journalists is to write about what is happening, but not just to please some readers. In the meantime, the terrible reality of the Armenian aggression against Azerbaijan is personal experiences and memories for many.

However, one can understand these estimations by Armenian politicians and advocates. Armenia has openly admitted that it loses "information war" to Azerbaijan. However, country’s "agitprop" is in no condition to deny the fact of the Khojaly genocide and incumbent Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan’s (he admitted it in a conversation with Thomas de Waal) and Defense Minister Seyran Oganyan’s complicity in this crime. So, they are obliged to “invent the response moves” in style “but you have exploitation of a man by man". There is no need to mention that many in Yerevan are willing to repeat the experience of the Soviet years, which ordered to forget about bloody raids of Dashnaks in Baku and Guba in 1918-1920, the March massacre and others for the sake of "proletarian internationalism".

Possibly, by employing such screams, Armenian politicians clearly hope to "influence" future status of Nagorno-Karabakh. Moreover, references to "self-determination of nations" made little impression on the world community. Few people in Washington, Paris, Brussels and Moscow are keen on recognizing "independence" of the Karabakh separatists. Finally, the Minsk Group is clearly not going to be guided by the results of the game called "referendum on independence of Nagorno-Karabakh.” On this backdrop, screams about the imaginary "lack of tolerance" of Azerbaijanis is one of the few ways Armenian ideologists have been left to influence the situation. Of course, one cannot say that this was a very strong argument, but the "Ministry of Truth" established in Armenia is demanded to show an "active work". So, it is trying to honestly portray activity and then report on it.

The more dangerous is that the very "Ministry of Truth” has launched downright nationalist hysteria reminiscent of the worst periods of the Nazi magazine Der Sturmer in the Armenian media, not marginal, but rather close to government circles.

Azerbaijanis and Turks act as xxxs in this case who are accused of every conceivable sin, from the "barbarism" to "capture of the Armenian land.” They invent "horrors of the Turkish atrocities" (mainly based on personal experience of pogroms and ethnic cleansing against Azerbaijanis in Zangazur first, and then in Karabakh and surrounding areas ) ... And this is not the activity of certain particularly exalted individuals.

Research institutions, associations and centers are established under this task to tell the citizens of Armenia and ethnic Armenians abroad how Turks and Azerbaijanis are "evil" and "bad" and how it would be nice if their lands were under Armenia’s control.

"Traditional parties" like Dashnaks, the government, not to mention the pro-government media are especially active in this regard. At some point, one gets tired of getting surprised at how these people are full of hatred towards their neighbors and are deeply convinced that they are “dominant influence" and create public opinion of their own people.

The most disturbing is that this hysteria started not yesterday or the day before. Myth about "Armenian genocide" prevailed in the Armenian environment for decades which brought about hatred towards Turks.

It is clear that on the eve of World War I, myths about "Turkish atrocities" had a clear basis since European countries tried to substantiate their claim to the Ottoman Empire’s lands this way while Armenian leaders were ready to maintain these interests of European powers. Later Stalin showed interest in this myth intending to expand borders of the USSR in general, and military bases on the Bosporus in particular.

The seizure of not the Turkish lands, but Azerbaijani lands, and above all, Azerbaijani oil is on agenda today. They intend to implement it by methods employed in the first quarter of the twentieth century against the Turks - massacres of the civilian population, constant claims of the “Armenian genocide" and a need to "save the ancient long-suffering people Christian people." Therefore they argue that nation like Azerbaijanis do not allegedly exist - Baku is still far away from Karabakh with its oil fields.

Very recently they tried to cover up this lack of facts by outright forgeries. Usual curses and insults are given priority now as it has become difficult to push fabrication. Extreme level of hatred on the Internet forums is not surprising, it is truly shocking. This is the same case with articles published in pro-government media outlets which not every moderator will add to forum’s main page.

In the meantime, these insults and accusations are addressed to the entire neighboring nations, which are "guilty" only for the fact that they will never give Armenia six eastern Anatolia provinces, Karabakh and surrounding areas. Armenian politicians suggest with anxiety that the country is stuck at the level of the twenties and takes this hatred towards neighbors and a mixture of gangster-revolutionary ideology to the twenty-first century.

However, no one has explained aunt Anoush and uncle Ashot that Armenian nationalist parties used this kind of myth for their political deal and collected "national homage" funding at the same time "historians” engaged in falsification. They heard talks about "national matter", "patriotism" and "duty to the fatherland". And no one dared to ask aloud the question: how the tiny country with three million people will survive on backdrop of extreme hatred towards its neighbors?

How to build a functioning economy, how to pursue an intelligible foreign policy so that they will finally be with their children and grandchildren who have prepared for another war which serves unknown interests, and without a real chance to win?

Another thing is that Armenian nationalist leaders are once again trying to "win" through the others’ help. More precisely, the lives of soldiers - other people's sons, because their children will certainly not serve in the military.

They only care about the pay check at the end of it, but they probably do hate Armenian's just like the Nazi propaganda department probably hated the J-ews.

Russia joined USA, EU and enforced Armenia to sign the Armenian-Turkish Protocol, which validates the invalid Kars treaty and makes AG questionable historical event. It was the price Russia “paid” to get Turkey’s agreement on building the gas pipeline, at the Armenia’s expense. Is it a friendly behavior?.

Research institutions, associations and centers are established under this task to tell the citizens of Armenia and ethnic Armenians abroad how Turks and Azerbaijanis are "evil" and "bad" and how it would be nice if their lands were under Armenia’s control.

"Traditional parties" like Dashnaks, the government, not to mention the pro-government media are especially active in this regard. At some point, one gets tired of getting surprised at how these people are full of hatred towards their neighbors and are deeply convinced that they are “dominant influence" and create public opinion of their own people.

The most disturbing is that this hysteria started not yesterday or the day before. Myth about "Armenian genocide" prevailed in the Armenian environment for decades which brought about hatred towards Turks.

It is clear that on the eve of World War I, myths about "Turkish atrocities" had a clear basis since European countries tried to substantiate their claim to the Ottoman Empire’s lands this way while Armenian leaders were ready to maintain these interests of European powers. Later Stalin showed interest in this myth intending to expand borders of the USSR in general, and military bases on the Bosporus in particular.

The seizure of not the Turkish lands, but Azerbaijani lands, and above all, Azerbaijani oil is on agenda today. They intend to implement it by methods employed in the first quarter of the twentieth century against the Turks - massacres of the civilian population, constant claims of the “Armenian genocide" and a need to "save the ancient long-suffering people Christian people." Therefore they argue that nation like Azerbaijanis do not allegedly exist - Baku is still far away from Karabakh with its oil fields.

Very recently they tried to cover up this lack of facts by outright forgeries. Usual curses and insults are given priority now as it has become difficult to push fabrication. Extreme level of hatred on the Internet forums is not surprising, it is truly shocking. This is the same case with articles published in pro-government media outlets which not every moderator will add to forum’s main page.

In the meantime, these insults and accusations are addressed to the entire neighboring nations, which are "guilty" only for the fact that they will never give Armenia six eastern Anatolia provinces, Karabakh and surrounding areas. Armenian politicians suggest with anxiety that the country is stuck at the level of the twenties and takes this hatred towards neighbors and a mixture of gangster-revolutionary ideology to the twenty-first century.

However, no one has explained aunt Anoush and uncle Ashot that Armenian nationalist parties used this kind of myth for their political deal and collected "national homage" funding at the same time "historians” engaged in falsification. They heard talks about "national matter", "patriotism" and "duty to the fatherland". And no one dared to ask aloud the question: how the tiny country with three million people will survive on backdrop of extreme hatred towards its neighbors?

How to build a functioning economy, how to pursue an intelligible foreign policy so that they will finally be with their children and grandchildren who have prepared for another war which serves unknown interests, and without a real chance to win?

Another thing is that Armenian nationalist leaders are once again trying to "win" through the others’ help. More precisely, the lives of soldiers - other people's sons, because their children will certainly not serve in the military.

There's not a single news article I read in my life these """"journalists""""" had written that is not either a direct or an indirect attack towards Armenia and its people.

There's no surprise that every Azeri we met hates Armenia, because the government, the groups of power, the gangsters, take care of any Azeri who doesn't think that way. The left it very clear in Eurovision when they called the people who voted for Armenia to the Ministry of Defense, while Armenians who voted for the Azerbaijani song and gave 1 point to it and everybody was cool with it. It is clear they want every single person to believe Armenia is the aggressor, the bloodthirsty, the murderers, and he who simply doesn't is shot or goes to jail.

My cousin in Armenia showed me material of an Azerbaijani blogger who did this video of an Armenian church in the middle of Baku, and what it represents to people. He very well explained from words in his own mouth "Armenians please come back, reclaim your church. Azerbaijani people don't want no war, we want peace." And well what happened to him? He was jailed some months ago, and I don't know if he's out now. This is how anyone who dares to not hate Armenia ends, persecuted...do I need to explain more?

The only ones coming up with this trash is them, they are all aimed to make every Azeri believe we are the devil himself. We have never started any anti-Azerbaijani campaign against them, and if you go to every Armenian webpage dedicated to the NK war or NKR, you will find no offensive indirects, no subliminal messages, and no aggressive statements towards anyone's ethnicity, just like they have in their hatred media and propaganda.

It is very clear to realize who's the one spending millions on propaganda and dirty business in order to spread hatred and lies in this, everybody knows. They just play along with Azerbaijan because they have oil, they are too stupid to realize they are being used once there will be no reason to use them, they will simply don't give a damn about them.

Also lets not forget about the Chechen reporter who was harassed on the Georgia-Azerbaijan border just because she had gone to school in Armenia and it showed on her passport she had been in Armenia. She said the local Azeri police asked her why she was in Armenia and told her they could kill her and no one would know. Yes thats Armenians hating Azeris. What about the school shooting? They did everything possible to blame Armenia for it. When there was a cyber attack on Armenian websites the first thing Armenia said was it wasnt from Azerbaijan. Yes its the Armenians who hate Azeris. Like you said during Eurovision. They came out with idiotic claims that we stole there songs and that we have no culture. As i see it, its the Azeris who are thought to hate not the other way around.

New trenches are being dug in Azerbaijan’s Armenian-occupied lands to build a new restrictive line.

Not only military staff, but also the local population are involved in this work. The news was presented to Armenian society almost with enthusiasm. They say even if Azerbaijan beats them in the first defense line, there will be second defense line in reserve. Azerbaijani blitzkrieg will ostensibly not work as the occupying army will retreat to the spare position. The euphoria is fueled by a need to confront "aggressive rhetoric of Baku" who reportedly is going to organize a march and reach Armenia’s frontiers already in spring.

Recently, Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan held a meeting. He and the military staff stated that the Armenian army is capable to withstand any challenges. Armenian media happily sighed. All experts spoke of a possible help by Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Russian, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan to protect their CSTO partner Armenia from the "bloodthirsty Azerbaijan.” Ordinary residents of the neighboring country assured that their state is preparing for a major war together with partners as evidenced by these trenches.

This is a very strange logic. Pan Armenian campaign against illiteracy is needed in this regard.

One should not rule out possibility of renewed hostilities either. Azerbaijan does not exclude such scenario of events. It has a full right to do so. But it still communicates unwilling to see victims, because it believes in victory of a reason. Most importantly, we already see some progress which shows success of diplomacy. Want proof? Gentlemen, these are the very trenches you are digging. They are dug and fortified not in wartime, but in process of peaceful settlement of the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

Armenia is set to return occupied lands under pressure. This was inevitable. There is nothing surprising about it.

Perhaps, few people know about it in Yerevan. So, I will point out everything in detail: all the previously submitted and currently debated proposals by co-chairs of OSCE Minsk Group call for complete withdrawal of Armenian armed forces from Azerbaijan’s lands. Moreover, under the proposals, local forces of the Karabakh Armenians must depart from the southern and eastern areas to the limits of the former Nagorno-Karabakh Autonomous Region. Both package of proposals and proposals to solve the conflict step-by-step contained these conditions.

The so-called Madrid principles are being considered currently. So, withdrawal of troops in that order is the first step in a peace settlement. It will be followed (if the parties agree as we already notice understanding) deployment of peacekeepers, demilitarization of the region, repatriation of of IDPs to their places of permanent residence, opening communication and discussing status of Karabakh.

Let’s have a commonplace look at the situation. What do we see? Armenians are digging trenches around the former Nagorno-Karabakh Autonomous Region. Will the western neighbors be delighted at that? Of course, yes. They will finally get rid of a conflict which has driven Armenia in a difficult position.

Azerbaijani citizens will also feel happy. Their endurance gave real results. All the same, they were able to achieve their target.

It is no accident that we all are going to witness significant progress in resolving the Karabakh conflict soon. After all, we have a clear indicator - Armenians are digging trenches and ditches, narrowing the area of the occupied territory.

See what I'm talking about? It doesn't matter under what circumstance or concerning to what, you can always find at least a little phrase directed to mock us or make us look bad, and in other stances, present us as the devil himself. They always play with both, either they pose us as their "bloodthirsty enemies" or as their "retarded neighbors"....and who's the one hating and starting provocation here?
