Re: Armenia and the information war
Baku tells its own truth
Every morning Azerbaijani news agencies, as if acting in collusion, report information on alleged sniping of the Azerbaijani troops by the Armenian side.
The stock reports, with hardly any changes, are made by a number of news agencies and are available on search engines in story forms. We can see that the news on “sniping” is normally reported early in the morning, between 9:00 and 10:00 a.m. So the disinformation of the Armenian armed forces’ activities on the frontline is the first information reported by the Azeri news agencies regardless of what is actually going on.
Five or six years ago the relevant Armenian agencies regularly refuted the reports. In the course of time, however, it has become senseless to refute the disinformation, as the aim of the Azeri propaganda is quite clear – creating a firm impression that the Armenian side is deliberately violating the cease-fire in the conflict zone. It is not clear, however, what is the purpose of the Armenian troops, which took up defensive positions long ago. On the other hand, among the numerous false reports, the Armenian Defense Office’s reports on individual incidents sound quite trustworthy, as it is the Azeri army that is a potential attacker.
Considering the above, one can arrive at the following conclusion: for many years the Azeri military propaganda has been exerting efforts to shape a different opinion of the real situation on the frontline — which of the sides is defending itself and which may launch an offensive. In case the hostilities resume, the false reports will be submitted to different monitoring groups, and the Armenian side may be accused of violating the cease-fire regime and unleashing a new war. No matter that it is entirely illogical. Propaganda is designed to produce its own truth, is it not?
