I think the passage of the Armenian family to Azerbaijan is not a coincidence, deputy Nizami Jafarov.

According to Jafarov, many citizens of Armenia want reconciliation with Azerbaijan and they want to live in Azerbaijan, because the living conditions in Armenia are too low.

"Not every Armenian citizen can work in Russia or Turkey. I think this is not a coincidence and this will promote Armenians' flow to Azerbaijan. Armenians are interested in Azerbaijan and I think most Armenians will come here if we create conditions on the border. Azerbaijan should create conditions for Armenians' passage to Azerbaijan. Armenians have no other way out. We should react calmly on this. On the other hand, we should get Armenians' interest to pass the border. Merely, they should be kept in isolation from each other", the deputy said.

Jafarov noted that such actions give additional dividends to Azerbaijan.

"For example, it is profitable for Turkey that tens of thousands of Armenians use different ways to come to Turkey to work. This influences Turkey's image because the living conditions there are much higher than in Armenia. The same will happen here. More Armenians will come to Azerbaijan. If Azerbaijan is interesting for the citizens of China and Korea, the Armenian citizens are interested in our country even more. And the world will see who is right", the deputy said.

I can understand that Armenians go abroad because of the situation Armenia is, they currently go to Russia, the USA, Iran, and even Turkey...but Azerbaijan? I don't understand why any Armenian would like to pass from 'lifetime penalty to death penalty', talking metaphorically. I believe if there is anyone in this world that can realize about what situation of Azerbaijan really is, these are the Armenians. But of course, if Azerbaijan wants to become a shelter for Armenian criminals and variety, do what you want.

Azerbaijan is a very poor country, it doesn't matter how much they claim they are in better economical and social conditions than Armenia just because they have oil,which means nothing more than more money to the rich and inflation to the poor. According to my World Atlas and World Almanac (which of course will tell you unbiased information), Armenia's 10,6% of the population live below the poverty line of US$1.25 a day and its level of Human Development is of (between 0 and 1) of 0,768 in 2006, while Azerbaijan's 10,5% of the population live below the poverty line of US$1.25 a day and its level of Human Development is of (between 0 and 1) of 0,736 in 2006. But of course, Azerbaijan won't let those facts be spread around the region. So, who's country here is rich and with a better level of living condition? Obviously not Armenia or Azerbaijan, both are in an equal package when it comes to development as a country.

After all, "economical growth" by Azerbaijan's petrol is not forever...someday their oil is going to run out, then what's gonna happen? Also, Aliyev can't become president for lifetime, unless of course he declares himself as a dictator...but I mean eventually he will not be Azerbaijan's president, I believe that day Azerbaijanis are going to see what their "dear president" as many call him left to them, a country in disgrace.

Maybe they couldnt afford plane tickets so they had to sneak into Turkey, no one knows the real story. I just love how azeris blow everything out of proportions. One family left so that proves the situation is better in azerbaijan? OK, there soldiers defect to Armenia, that means Armenia's army is better.

Day.Az interview with Azerbaijani political expert Ilgar Mammadov.

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will hold consultations on Turkey-Armenia protocols with the Armenian American organizations in February. What do you expect from these consultations. What will be their outcome in your opinion?

Apparently, American political leaders would seek to persuade the Armenian lobby not to oppose ratification of the Turkish-Armenian protocols. The Obama Administration has adequate political power to ignore demands of lawmakers put forward by the Armenian lobby. In other words, extremely popular Obama does not need votes of Armenian voters and he can easily implement policies contrary to the objectives of this ethnic lobby.

To what extent challenges that Armenia faces are close and clear to the Armenian diaspora in the U.S.? Why does it oppose specific steps by Armenia in this issue?

Armenian diaspora, whether in the United States, France, Russia or anywhere else, has no special attachment to the Republic of Armenia as a country of origin. This is understandable since this nation was founded primarily on Azerbaijani lands, and the diaspora was formed by Armenians who supported Russia in World War I in the Ottoman Empire. They have their own accounts with Turkey, against which they unsuccessfully fought and were defeated. They see Armenians of Armenia as expendable material in their own intrigue against Turkey.

That is why they do not understand today's dire situation of President Serzh Sargsyan, who needs to run the country- 18 percent decline in GDP, 45 percent decline in individual remittances from abroad (despite the fact that Armenia's GDP is more than 15 percent dependent on that money), negative demographics and holding aloof from all the important regional projects, dependence on handouts of Russia and international financial institutions.

As ironic it may seem, back in 1987 the Karabakh conflict was triggered with lies about economic backwardness of the Nagorno-Karabakh Autonomous Region from the rest of Azerbaijan. However, exactly twenty years later, long-term and desperate economic backwardness of entire Armenia from Azerbaijan discredited Miatsum and credibility of the diaspora.

Today various statements are being made in Armenia itself in this regard. So, leader of Armenia’s Gnchakyan Party Lyudmila Sargsyan announced at the party meeting that Armenia has de facto lost its independence. Do you share Sargsyan’s views?

Armenia has lost its independence long ago. However, it should be noted that independence of a state is not a key political value for Armenians, at least for now. This is their vision of a political world. It is very different from ours, but it has a right to exist. Lack of independence in foreign policy of their own state is significant for the Armenians only in the sense that it impedes them in official diplomacy, where there is a demand for various negotiations with the states. But in this case their understanding of the policy conflicts with the generally accepted rules. Let's see how they will solve this contradiction.

In your opinion, what will happen next in Armenia in near future? How it may impact the resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict?

Armenia may want to resume hostilities with Azerbaijan in near future in an attempt to deprive Azerbaijan of growing strategic advantage. On the other hand, it is not Armenia that makes a decision about this. I am still inclined to think that Armenia’s patrons do not want to play lottery in a new war. Moreover, according to Armenian experts, areas around the former Nagorno-Karabakh Autonomous Region no longer play buffer role. So, Azerbaijani army can easily attack targets anywhere in the former autonomous region. This is another reason why I look forward to an early start of Armenia’s withdrawal from Azerbaijan’s occupied lands.

i have been wanting to expose and discuss dr. Kerimov's work on this forum for awhile now but never got to it. So what is so special about him? Well dr. Kerimov is not only a highly decorated scientist in azerbaijan but he has a second job as a cartoonist. What about his cartoons? Well they are not just any cartoons but they are propaganda cartoons that focus on armenia and armenians. His cartoons are also officially sanctioned by the azerbaijani government. What makes these cartoons special is that they are extremely dangerous given on how they are fed to the azerbaijani population which surely includes children. When children are raised with these cartoons, they will develop and mature with hatred of armenians and that is dangerous because it essentially means azerbaijan is breeding an entire generation of azerbaijanis that are potentially genocidal maniacs and that is perhaps the single biggest thread to the armenian nation. Just how far do these cartoons go? Let me show you some examples.

common themes of his artwork includes equating terrorism and narcomania (drug abuse) to "armenism", linking nakhichevan and azerbaijan, calling the armenian genocide (ermeni soyqirim) an armenian plot to squeeze money, equating armenia with nazism, turning armenia into a snake or an ugly bloodthirsty man etc. The ironic part about him equating armenia to nazism is that these political cartoon tactics were most prominently used by nazi germany! And the most damning of evidence as to where dr. Kerimov is getting his ideas is found in the following comparison between a nazi germany propaganda cartoon during wwii and a cartoon from dr. Kerimov.

CSTO: Azerbaijan Ambassador’s statements cause bewilderment

The statement contains unequivocal call for hostilities and can’t help the conflict settlement. Such approach leads to aggravation of regional situation, and goes counter to OSCE MG efforts and Armenia-Azerbaijan presidential negotiations’ context, CSTO Institute said in a statement.

In an interview with ANS TV Channel, Ambassador Bülbüloğlu said “it’s time to liberate the seized lands.” “If Azerbaijan launches war, no one will have the right to interfere, since Azerbaijan will fight in its own territory,” he said.

“Ambassadorial statements can be interpreted as disbelief in political and diplomatic methods of conflict settlement and hostility solicitation,” CSTO Institute said. “It’s even stranger to hear such from a man of art, whose primary ideals should be achievement of peace and harmony. The Collective Security Treaty Organization, like other international structures repeatedly expressed its support for peaceful settlement of conflict and continues efforts towards its resolution.”

Freedom House new object of Azerbaijan’s hatred

Whatever we may say, official Baku has never been able to forgive the United States for launching the Armenia-Turkey normalization process and calling for normalization without any preconditions. Throughout the recent months the Azerbaijani authorities have been seeking occasions for attacks on the United States. The developments are perceived with even greater pain by the official Azeri propaganda.

Late last December all the central Azeri media outlets were indignant at the U.S.A. for its decision to provide essential financial aid to Nagorno-Karabakh. After the efforts failed, Baku began to look for “fresh food” for its worn-out propaganda machine and has found it – this time it is a regular report by the Freedom House, a Washington-based international non-governmental organization.

The point is that the report describes Azerbaijan as “not free,” while Armenia is “a partly free” country. It was enough for Baku to start telling “awful stories” about Freedom House being incompetent and biased. Well, the organization dared challenge Ilham Aliyev’s policy of constructing “democratic and prospering” Azerbaijan.

This time, the key role in “exposing” the U.S. human rights organization has been assigned to Elnur Aslanov, Head of the Political Analysis and Information Department, Azerbaijani Presidential Administration. He began telling tales about the Government’s concern for mass media and non-governmental organizations, without saying a single word about how this concern is shown in practice. Was Aslanov to tell about the Presidential Administration’s total control over all the TV channels, as it is practiced in such rogue states as Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, or about the Azeri NGOs, which first of all swear their loyalty to the “national leader” Heydar Aliyev and his son Ilham? Aslanov also held back the truth about dozens of Azerbaijani journalists losing years in jails.

However, Azerbaijan’s campaign against Freedom House is absolutely pointless. One needs great imagination to accuse the organization of lobbying for Armenian interests — its distinctly negative appraisals of the Armenian authorities’ actions during the 2008 post-election period are still fresh in our mind. If the situation is even worse in Azerbaijan they had better try to improve it instead of going off into hysterics.

Azerbaijan Celebrates 10,000th Threat to Attack Armenia

Aliev Performing Anniversary Threat

Azerbaijan, Baku - A festive ceremony involving President Ilham Aliev and key government officials featured a long-expected speech by leader of the country. A landmark threat to wipe out Armenian forces from Karabakh was attended by representatives of international organizations, embassies and reporters.

The State Statistical Service of Azerbaijan had predicted the landmark 10,000th threat to take place by end of 2010, however extra effort on part of the government pushed the date closer. Surrounded by excited officials, as well as invited Guinness book experts, Aliev swiftly took his stand by the tribune.

“We are gathered here today to celebrate one of the most important milestones in the history of Azerbaijan. Today I am going to voice my 10,000th threat to use force against the occupant forces of Armenia”, said Aliev in an unusually motivated tone.

“I remember my first threat back in 2003 as I assumed the office… Nothing compares to a first threat.. incredible feeling”, Aliev looked down for a second, shaking his head nostalgically. “

“Proudly, I stand here before you today with 9,999 publicly announced threats, over 5,000 ultimatums and countless nags at Armenia behind my back”, continued Aliev as the crowd ripped in applauds at each announced number.

“Attained results are stunning. The previous threats have scared Armenia so much, that they were forced to modernize their army and build up heavier front-lines. No doubt, another 4 or 5 thousand elaborated threats and Armenian army will be forced to surrender Karabakh. Another 7-9 thousand more threats and Zangezur will be ours!”

After some 5 minutes of introductory suspense Aliev eventually unveiled the hard-boiled message. Slapping his fist on the table Aliev frowned heavily, almost zipping eyelids in anger and said: “Seriously, Armenians, leave Karabakh. I’m super serious. Leave it, OTHERWISE,” the crowd froze in awe, as Aliev raised his pointer finger in a two-minute additional suspense “we promise to use force!”

Aliev’s speech was immediately released on TV and other media. Azerbaijani politicians flooded press with comments on the unprecedented tough message of the leader to Armenia.

Baku Times called the landmark threat “nation’s biggest success after the 5,000th threat back of 2006” which marked a turning point in threat development and announcement efforts.

Political analyst Yusuf Bakiev from “Yusuf Bakiev” Foundation comments on the speech as extremely impressive. “This year’s speech is frankly much spicier than anything I heard before. I think we are just a few threats away from liberating Karabakh from the infidel assholes. I mean, let’s be reasonable, 10,000 threats could not go without an impact. It’s simple physics – energy like that doesn’t just vanish, it kicks ass. In this case, Aliev totally kicked Armenian ass”, explained Azerbaijani top expert.

French diplomat: 'Armenia not surrendering after multiple threats - astounding'

French Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Andre Maginot, who participated in the event, shared emotions of the landmark threat ceremony: “This was huge! Amazing threat.. and the frown and.. and the slap on the table. A masterpiece of intimidation. Armenians need to make a sane decision now. I mean, we would definitely surrender. In fact.. we might still surrender ourselves, just in case.”

Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs could not provide any comments on the landmark threat. “Unfortunately, we do not watch Azerbaijani TV, so we can’t provide any comments,” said Ministry spokesman to ArmCom.

What is happening in the minds and the hearts of Armenian officials is known only to God.

It is not excluded that it is already X hour for President Serzh Sargsyan and his government when not only the solution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and the possible reopening of the border with Turkey, but also the fate of Armenia and the term that the current government has left in power, depends on further steps to be taken by Ankara, Moscow and Baku.

The events in some way related to Yerevan over the past few days are developing with incredible speed. As is known, Turkish PM Erdogan discussed great deal of issues with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin in Moscow. Following his Russia trip, Russia'n FM Lavrov arrived in Yerevan. Most likely, he visited Armenia to appease the government that partners with it in the CSTO. No more.

In the meantime, Armenia's Constitutional Court endorsed the Armenian-Turkish protocols.

The fate of Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and the Armenian-Turkish border is actually solved without Yerevan. Very few people in the region are interested in Yerevan’s opinion (when they actually did, Armenia was engaged in nonsense). Smart people outside the Armenian government predicted this development a few months ago.

Apparently, the government officials of the neighboring country began to slowly become aware of this fact. They could not help panicking, of course. The reason is clear: something happens, there is movement, it concerns you directly, but you are not told about it yet.

As a result, Sargsyan and Co. could think nothing better than to send Defense Minister Seyran Ohanyan as some sort of intelligence gatherer to Moscow. Certainly, the latter was strictly ordered to find out everything on the latest developments in the region as detailed as possible and not to come back without news.

How hard Ohanyan tried, he probably returned with no significant news. Though before his visit Ohanyan confidently told media that he would meet not only with his counterpart Anatoly Serdyukov, but also a number of senior official, we saw nothing like that.

He arrived in Moscow on Tuesday and met with Russian defense minister on Wednesday. They just discussed training of Armenian military personnel in Russian Defense Ministry universities and prospects for the development of military and military-technical cooperation. In any case, this is what Russian Defense Ministry’s press office reported.

It makes no sense to think that they have decided to conceal the true subjects of negotiations. The Russian government has no naïve people. So, whatever Seyran ask, no one will reveal secrets of future strategic developments in the region to him and his boss.

Nothing depends on them at the moment. The less our neighbors will know, the better – there will be less panic, blackmail, public debates and other related general development in the region from Yerevan which might influence the process one way or another.

Sitting in the plane on his way back, Ohanyan certainly frantically pondered over what he will tell Sargsyan. After all, he failed to accomplish the mission and he and his boss will sit in the dark as long as Russia, Turkey and Azerbaijan will not be willing to disclose the essence of collaborative decision making.

Yereven should blame itself for such scenario of events. It needs not to go beyond limits of blackmail and bluff. In the end, the it should also not go beyond limit of promises, which, in fact, are meaningless ...
