Over th period of 27th August to 6th September “OCC first level international course” was held in the Republic of Armenia, within the framework of NATO "Partnership for Peace" (PfP) Operational Capabilities Concept (OCC), also incorporating NATO level 1 evaluation of a rifle battalion from ARM AF Peacekeeping Brigade.
64 servicemen from 21 countries (13 of whom represented NATO-member, and 35 – Partner nations), were involved in the international course and the evaluation. Specialists of the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers in Europe (SHAPE) took part in the event as instructors, while delegates from the US Kansas National Guard were present as advisors.
Six servicemen of the ARM AF and 50 foreign delegates participated in the OCC Evaluation Course as students. Upon completion of the course, they will be certified as “OCC level 1 evaluators”.
The exercise for OCC NATO level 1 evaluation of a rifle battalion from Peacekeeping Brigade aims at testing the interoperability and operational compatibility of the Brigades units with those of Partner counties.
During the command-post phase of the exercise the participants acquire knowledge on staff protocol and C2, to include the processing an operational order, issuing tasks to subordinate units, until the termination of operations.
During the field phase of the exercise, participants acquire experience in a number of tasks envisaged in peacekeeping missions such as patrols, convoys, checkpoints, as well as cordon and search operations.

Engineering troops of the Armenian Armed Forces celebrate their 21st anniversary

September 7th is celebrated as Engineering Troops Day in the military calendar. Current year is the 21st anniversary of the formation of given military branch.
On the occasion of the 21st anniversary of formation of the Engineering Troops of the Armenian Armed Forces,a ceremonial event was held at one of the branch’s military unit. The event was attended by Minister of Defence of the Republic of Armenia Seyran Ohanyan, Chief of General Staff of the Armenian Armed Forces Yuri Khachaturov, Deputy Ministers of Defence and Chiefs of Staff, as well as by other high-ranking military personnel.
The participants of the event started off by paying tribute to the memory freedom fighters fallen in actions, putting a wreath and flowers at the memorial perpetuating their triumph.Subsequently Seyran Ohanyan and personnel accompanying him, were briefed on the weaponry and heavy armoured vehicles currently used by the engineering troops as well as garments and other professional equipment used in anti-mining. They also watched a demonstration of mine-detection training.
During the ceremony, congratulatory remarks were given by the former and current leaders of the military unit who presented chronology of formation and development of the unit, emphasizing importance of the work that sappers do.
Dedicated to the anniversary, Defence Minister Seyran Ohanyan congratulated engineer-sapper troops and emphasized the service rendered by the servicemen of the engineering troops, highlighting that their professional skills ensure the security of actions of the other branches.
Within the framework of the event, award ceremony took place during which a number of servicemen of the engineering troops were awarded departmental medals, certificates and valuable gifts by the order of the Minister of Defence for the services rendered to Motherland.
