What strategic value does NKR even hold tot Azerbaijan? Why do they want a land with old towns so badly? IMHO, I think its only going the Toorks way. This does not look like a compromise at all, sure, Armenia gets an open border with Turkey but loses so much in footing. I think Turkey and Azerbaijan need to put a little bit more on the table if they want land back...
I do agree that getting rid of the land with the least strategic value is the best choice for now

A smart nation never classifies its land into important and unimportant.
An enemy by definition attacks the very edge of your country.
I have never heard a country say never mind its is at the edge of the country, it does not matter.

Nations have resisted far stronger adversaries than it is the case now.

The minute you go down that path you will not know when will the giving stop.
As we already see, offers of their land is on the able.
There will always be somebody “more generous” than you who will offer a bit more not to loose his comfort.

Little bit of anything from turks does not cut it.
First Azerbaijan has to declare and sign treaty that it will not pursue any military solution to Artsakh conflict.
Second, baku has to accept suvereinity of Artsakh with strategic lands between Armenia.
Third, Baku has to recognise great Armenian Genocide and pogroms in 1988 of Armenians in Azerbaijan and apologise.
Fourth, Turkey must recognise Armenian genocide and apologise and end the blockade. Otherwise the war is not over.
Giving up any centimeter of land before theese conditions are met means that we will weaken ourselfs before both enemies without any guarantees.
We have nothing to give to turkic world unless they change their approach to us fundamentally.

We have to be extremely careful not to exchange anything which is non reversible such as land with something that is reversible on their part.

I would only accept territory adjustments for Shaumyan, Getashen, Artsvashen etc on an equitable basis and without compromising defensive capability of Artsakh.

We do not negotiate and pay (or exchange) for civilised behaviour, such as open borders.

Azerbaijan to build warships in 2014



Azerbaijan will start building warships in the next year, military sources said to a local press.

Baku Shipyard has already submitted several projects to the naval forces for building naval ships for various purposes.
Once the projects are approved, the construction will begin.

Azerbaijan plans to increase its capacities in the Caspian Sea, and have modern ships in the framework of the navy power modernization program by 2020. A new naval base, as well as several divisions in north and south, will be created.

The new military base will start to operate next year, the Azerbaijan Defense Ministry told a local press. At present, construction is underway at the base in Puta in the Garadagh district of Baku, and it will be provided with modern navigation and observation systems.
According to the program, Azerbaijan will receive complexes "Uran-E" in 2014; Russia was commissioned with providing them for the price of $75 million in 2010, with the purpose of arming Azerbaijan's ships.

According to the ministry, work on the modernization of Azerbaijan's Navy in the country's territorial waters is not directed against other states.

Established in mid-1992, Azerbaijani Navy is now considered one of the strongest in the Caspian Sea basin, bounded by Russia, Azerbaijan, Iran, Turkmenistan, and Kazakhstan. The Azerbaijan Navy is currently led by Vice Admiral Shahin Sultanov.

Italian company to complete delivery of helicopters to Azerbaijan next year



Baku. Rashad Suleymanov – APA. The Italian AgustaWestland company will complete the delivery of AW-139 and AW-189 helicopters to Azerbaijan next year, representatives of AgustaWestland company attending Dubai Airshow told APA.

At present, the company is carrying out the production and delivery of AW-139 helicopters. According to the agreement, Azerbaijan will purchase 8 AW-139 helicopters and 2 AW-189.
According to the company representatives, the helicopters can operate in all weather conditions. The helicopters designed for search and rescue (SAR) missions have been equipped with night vision systems and FLIR cameras.
Company representatives said that the post-Soviet region is considered a new and prospective market for them. They have not confirmed nor refused the discussions held with the Azerbaijani side on sale of various search-rescue and military helicopters.

Strange criteria for giving away land.

Why doesn't the USA give up Alaska, mostly barren land.
Why doesn’t Russia give up Siberia, mostly barren land.
The list can be expanded to many other countries.

Bleeding population should be a strategic concern and be addressed accordingly.
It should not be “we are smaller nation now so we do not need so much land” attitude.

Are you suggesting by giving those lands our reproduction rate will increase.
Or low reproduction rate is not a strategic issue for the nation ( and government) and nothing to do with giving away land.

PS. Only those who lost the war have to contend with giving up land.
I did not say we won the war.

believe it or not, Armenia's biggest existential threat today is not any Turk, it's our population drainage

They came in as invaders. Those were never their lands. We finally take back a small portion of our ancestral lands & now we are giving it to them???
