I know it would be negative for our air force effectiveness, I also heard Armenia has no such aircraft this system can target, and I thought we didn't have these system in our territory. But then I read ArmeniaR1 post that we indeed have many of these systems, and Federate told me that they are in power of the Russian base in Gyumri...and I just wanted to know, if we have them too, then what it's the problem? People speaks about that Azerbaijan's acquirement of the S-300 will give them superiority over us, and will change the balance in the regions military. Yet if we also have some of these in our territory and since we have an agree with Russia on security we can use them if the case is given, then this only means Azerbaijan's purchase of S-300 would only give them some of the systems we already have
Yes a very interesting situation may arise.

If as was said the Armenian S-300s are controlled by Russians surly the Azeri S-300s will also be controlled by Russians.
What a farce that would be.

The S-300s are located in our territory but not sure whether they cover any of Karabagh territory.

My understanding is that the S-300 can target most flying objects.
I remember a reference where they were being compared with the Patriot ( antimissile) system.

S-300s placed in Azerbajian can target any of our military aircraft within range regardless of size, performance, and speed. It can also track and shoot down missiles. If this turns out true, the location of the S-300s will say what it is really there for.

Also there are many types of S-300s
Effectively what you are saying is that in case of hostilities with Azerbaijan
they will have S-300 in their armory, while Armenia will not have any.

I just read here that we indeed have S-300 in our armory, but they are Soviet era ones with a range of 90km, while the ones Russia's selling Azerbaijan have a range of 200km.

2010-08-03Arthur Baghdasaryan says military and military political cooperation between RA and RF on the highest level
YEREVAN, AUGUST 3, ARMENPRESS. The military and military political cooperation between Armenia and Russia are on the highest level, secretary of the Armenian National Security Council Arthur Baghdasaryan told today the reporters, pointing out that the two countries initiated a number of big programs in the military sphere which are being effectively carried out. “Ten days ago heads of Russian military-industrial enterprises visited Armenia. Concrete agreements have been reached on creation of joint ventures in the military-industrial sphere. In near future visit of the Russian President Dmitry Medvedev to Armenia is expected, afterwards the summit of the CSTO will take place in Yerevan. We may clearly state that the military-political cooperation is effectively developing,” Baghdasaryan said.

Imagine the US providing Armenia with some of its best weapons it has and then
making an identical statement but the text changed such that Armenia is replaced by Turkey or Azerbaijan ....

Hopefully the results of this cooperation will not be sold to Azerbaijan ..... except of course if the price is right.
