'People escape from Karabakh because no one wants to live there.
People know that as soon as war starts, they will die first', said Armenian soldier Grant Markosyan who has passed to the Azerbaijani side.
He said everyone knows that Armenians do not want to live in Karabakh.
'If war starts, they all will run away. They have already started to escape. Most even shoot themselves. I have been serving for four months and heard much of this kind.
Armenians say this land is not ours, they understand that they have occupied it but they want to keep it. They understand that this will never happen because this land is not ours and will never be it. In the end, they will understand that they will have to return these lands', he said.
Markosyan also noted that the situation is poor in all military units of Armenia.
'This is like that everywhere in Armenia. I had many friends who served in other units, I asked them, they told me that it is better to run away than to serve in Karabakh'.

Armenian Defense Minister’s relative – deserter: We know that these territories are not ours
[ 10 Aug 2010 12:17 ]
Baku. Viktoria Dementieva – APA. Armenian Defense Minister Seyran Ohanyan’s relative Ohan Harutunyan is among the Armenian soldiers, who crossed into the territory controlled by Azerbaijani Armed Forces in order to get rid of the tyranny in the Armenian army.
APA managed to talk to Ohan Harutunyan, 19, who left the army together with Gevorg Tovmasyan and surrendered to Azerbaijan.
Ohan and Gevorg said they had undergone violence and humiliation in the military unit in Nagorno Karabakh. Gevorg Tovmaysan said he had been humiliated by the commander, made to clean the toilet from the first day of the military service. Tovmasyan said he decided to flee and shared his decision with Ohan. Gevorg and Ohan said they had been received well in Azerbaijan and did not want to return to Armenia.
“While crossing into the Azerbaijani side we thought our conditions would be better than in Armenia. We were received well in Azerbaijan. Our condition is good. We do not have problems with food. We are given everything we need. It is impossible to live in Armenia, there is hunger, unemployment there,” he said.
Ohan Harutunyan says though he is Defense Minister Seyran Ohanyan’s relative, he did not ask minister to help when he faced violence and ill-treatment.
“When I faced the situation in the army, I understood that Ohanyan was not a good man and it would be useless to appeal to him,” he said.
To APA’s question about the atmosphere in the Armenian Army Ohan says the Armenians serving in Nagorno Karabakh say they will flee if the war starts.
“We know that these territories are not ours. Most Armenians realize that these territories do not belong to Armenia and they must be returned,” he said.
Soldiers of Armenian Army – Harutunyan Ohan Vadinagiyevich, 19, Tovmasyan Gevorg Serjikovich, 19, crossed into the territory controlled by Azerbaijani Armed Forces on the line of contact in Goranboy region at 13.00, May 31, 2009.
