About joint defense system with Russia.
The benefit for us is about turkey.
We have Azerbaijan covered by our selfs, but turkey on the other hand is a different matter. Erdoghan's turkey has become very unpredictable and dangerous for us, just like for orher's. It's grandiose panturkust behavior is very dangerous.
Just like with Kurds in Syria and Iraq, who is to say that in case of war with Azerbaijan, it would not commence to some kind of military quick action by air or in Azeri soil tipping the war in baku's favor?
After all Turks are masters in using a situations in creating realities that international community does deal with little or no reaction.
It can take a single encroachment by air to tip the balance of war in Baku's favor. We are a small country with only a handful of targets.
Now we can be assured that the air is better protected. It was enough against Azerbaijan, but will be against Turkey

BTW...this is a HUGE. I think sometimes we take things really lightly. But with the current situation in Syria and the growing Russian presence in the middle east (militarily), the talk is that Russia wants to build an air defense system that covers the entire middle east and gives it operational leverage over Syria and possibly Iraq. Good for us, Armenia was chosen to be this location. The talk is not only about modernizing Armenia's air defense system. It's also about establishing radar systems, radioelectronic systems, jamming systems and anti-curise/ballistic missile capabilities that would allow Russian jets operate safely over the entire region. This is not about Armenia as much as it is about Russia creating a system that counters the American missile shield and forward presence in the middle east.

There was a really interesting report a month (or so) back. Back then they showed that Armenian radars already cover the entire airspace of azerbaijan. I remember in the report they showed Haidar Aliev airport and the planes flying over it (on the radar). The talk will now be about a wider spectrum including the entire turkish airspace, airspace of Syria, Lebanon, Iraq and caspian see all the way to Tajikistan (at least that's what they showed) and hopefully new missile systems that can cover at least part of this airspace (hopefully the S-400s).

Armenia's value for Russia will get a huge boost if this goes through as planned. Our homeland deserves it.

Agree 100%. This is a fantastic development. I've heard so many arguments from Armenians and others for and against the Russian alliance...well, this pretty much quashes all the naysayers against Russia. Sure, more can be done with regards to providing aircraft, missiles, etc but this air defense system protects Armenia against Turkish invasion, not just on a technical side but also with regards to the impetus and very explicit message of Russian support. It's also beneficial because as ArmeniSacra stated above, Armenian is providing something Russia needs, positioning closer to the M.E. region.

China is buddies with Iran and Russia, I don't think it's gonna end here. Yesterday i was reading that the Armenian government working for a written plan or something with the Iranian side.

National Defense Research Institute to open in Armenia
The government on Thursday, December 24 resolved to open a National Defense Research Institute under Armenia’s Defense Ministry, Tert.am reports.

During the session, Defense Minister Seyran Ohanyan said the university will seek to implement scientific and practical research in the sector of defense for the Armenian military and political leadership, provide higher, postgraduate and supplementary education in defense and security sector, as well as form the senior staff for strategic defense and security sectors.

According to the Minister, a council, comprised of the president and 19 other members, will govern the university.

In this context, Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan noted that the university imposes no additional financial burden on the state.
