At least two Azerbaijani soldiers have been killed in renewed fighting with Armenian forces in Nagorno-Karabakh, it emerged on Wednesday.
The deadly clash reportedly occurred on Tuesday in a northern section of the main Armenian-Azerbaijani “line of contact” that recently saw the worst ceasefire violation in the Karabakh conflict zone in over two years.

Azerbaijan’s Defense Ministry said an Armenian “sabotage group” attacked its troops stationed in the area late in the afternoon and was pushed back by them. A ministry statement cited by Azerbaijani media said two Azerbaijani and three Armenian soldiers died in the firefight.

Military officials in Armenia and Karabakh blamed the Azerbaijani army for the incident and insisted that there were no fatalities among Karabakh Armenian forces. “The opposite happened. As always, they are spreading false reports,” Armenia’s Defense Minister Seyran Ohanian told journalists in Yerevan on Wednesday.

“Azerbaijan has again shown its face,” said Ohanian. “After meeting with a worthy response from our frontline troops, [Azerbaijani troops] fled the battlefield and suffered casualties.”

Karabakh’s Defense Army, meanwhile, claimed that Azerbaijani forces suffered seven casualties in a failed “sabotage attack” on its positions in the disputed territory’s northern Martakert district. The army spokesman, Senor Hasratian, told RFE/RL’s Armenian service that the incident occurred early in the morning.

According to Hasratian, only one Karabakh Armenian soldier, identified as Rudik Manaserian, was wounded in the skirmish. Doctors at a military hospital in the Karabakh capital Stepanakert told RFE/RL on Wednesday that the 19-year-old conscript has undergone surgery and is now in a “satisfactory” condition.

The same section of the frontline was already the scene of deadly fighting between the warring sides as recently as on June 18-19. It left one Azerbaijani and four Armenian troops dead and raised more fears of another Armenian-Azerbaijani war.

Each party blamed the other for that firefight, which was took place the day after the presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan met in Saint Petersburg for fresh talks hosted by their Russian counterpart, Dmitry Medvedev. The Armenian side accused Baku of deliberately provoking the incident to torpedo the peace process spearheaded by the United States, Russia and France.

It pointed to the fact that the Azerbaijani soldier, Mubariz Ibrahimov, was shot dead in Armenian-controlled territory. His body has still not been handed over to the Azerbaijani side.

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev bestowed the posthumous title of “national hero” on Ibrahimov in late July. Aliyev also ordered his government to name a school and a street after the dead soldier.

Azerbaijan afraid to own number of victims in Azeri-organized diversion
      September 1, 2010 - 20:24 AMT 15:24 GMT

PanARMENIAN.Net - After the failed diversion on the line of contact of Karabakh and Azeri armed forces, Azerbaijan continues with its deceitful propaganda, attempting to convince community of losing no soldiers to the diversion. Azeri side goes on asserting that the provocation was triggered by Armenian armed forces, the information being completely false, said Vardan Avetisyan, the head of PR department at Armenian Ministry of Defence.

As he explained in a conversation with PanARMENIAN.Net reporter, Azeri diversion group of 8 attacked NKR positions. Thanks to the vigilance of Armenian frontier guards, the group was practically eliminated. “Our sources reported 4 to have been killed, and the remaining badly injured. Azerbaijan side keeps silence to preserve the illusion of the invincible army among Azeri society. This is a simple method of propaganda.”

“In a few days Azeri authorities will own up the true number of victims, coming up with a different scenario of their death,” Avetisyan stressed.

As the head of PR department noted, one Armenian soldier was injured in a close combat. However, his life is out of danger.

On August 31, on the line of contact of Karabakh and Azeri armed forces, Azeri side made another attempt at diversion.

Armenian frontier guards, having noticed advancing movement of the rivals’ special detachment, took relevant actions, repulsing the rival to its initial position.

Azerbaijani Defense Ministry: Armenian troops committed sabotage on Azerbaijani territory, both sides incured losses
          01 September 2010 [11:35] - Today.Az

Armenian Armed Forces' commando crossed the contact line in Chayli village in Tartar region in an attempt to attack on Azerbaijani Armed Forces at 16:30 on Aug. 31, the Azerbaijan Defense Ministry said.

Armenian side lost three soldiers and several others were injured after Azerbaijani soldiers' repeled the attack.

As a result of the incident, Azerbaijani lost two soldiers - Vugar Amirov, 19, drafted from Imishli region and Parvin Abdullayev, 19, drafted from Sabirabad region.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. Armenian armed forces have occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan since 1992, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.

Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group - Russia, France, and the United States - are currently holding the peace negotiations.

Armenia has not yet implemented the U.N. Security Council's four resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.

NKR Forces Repel Azeri Advance, Killing 7

According to the NKR Ministry of Defense, at around 6:30 yesterday morning Azerbaijani forces attempted to advance on an NKR frontline position in the northeast sector, in the vicinity of the village of Verin Chailou. Azerbaijani Defense Ministry no longer able to conceal real number of diversion casualties

According to Azerbaijani media reports, an incident occurred at a military unit deployed in the city of Naftalan, Azerbaijan, resulting in the death of military unit serviceman Namig Pirmamedov.

Deputy Head of Azerbaijani Defense Ministry press office Teymur Abdullayev confirmed the report saying that serviceman’s death was caused by violation of rules for handing arms.

Yesterday Azerbaijani media issued a report that a serviceman was gravely injured in an incident at an Azerbaijani military unit. According to some information, Alyaddin Alixxxaoglu Jalilov, 19, was gravely injured as he shot himself. He was rushed to a military hospital.

According to NKR Defense Army press office, on August 31, at around 06.30 am, Azerbaijan carried out a diversion against Armenian positions in the north-east sector of Karabakh-Azerbaijan contact line, near the village of Verin Chaylu.

The Azerbaijani side said the incident resulted in death of 2 Azerbaijanis, while spokesman for NKR Defense Army Commander Senor Hasratyan told panorama.am that the number of Azerbaijan’s casualties was larger – not 2 but 7. He stressed that there were cases of grave injuries among them who are unlikely to survive.

So, we can suppose that the two above mentioned incidents in Azerbaijani army relate not to incautious handling of arms but to the diversion carried out by Azerbaijan in the direction of Chaylu. In all probability, Hasratyan’s predictions are coming true, and the number of casualties keeps increasing.

Its so blatantly obvious that the Azeris use these cases "of weapon malfunctions" etc to cover their losses on the frontline during these useless maneuvers; more to come in the next few days, its how they will explain their deaths to their families. The Armenian army is far from perfect but through years of scrutiny, they have never hid the losses on the battlefield.
