Azerbaijan has resumed war, Azerbaijani ambassador to Russia explicit about it – Modest Kolerov

      18:35 • 03.04.16

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev attempted a swift military victory, which failed, Russia-based political analyst Modest Kolerov told Tert.am as he commented on the fighting on the Line of Contact.

According to him, Azerbaijan launched this offensive as it did not get aid from the United States, which is for involving Nagorno-Karabakh as negotiator in the peace process.

Mr Kolerov, severe fighting along the Line of Contact has continued for two days, which has claimed human lives on both the sides – Nagorno-Karabakh and Azerbaijan. What do you think of the reasons for Azerbaijan’s lightning offensive?

The reason is that Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev is dissatisfied with the present prospects for a settlement of the conflict. They are obviously leading to Nagorno-Karabakh’s involvement in the peace process as negotiator. Aliyev was seeking US support, but failed because the United States is for involving Nagorno-Karabakh as negotiator in the peace process. Moreover, Turkish President Recep Erdogan used Aliyev as a tool to open a new “front” against Russian interests, and Aliyev is helping him.

Aliyev attempted a swift military victory, which failed. So now that the entire world can see Azerbaijan has resumed war, which was explicitly stated by the Azerbaijani ambassador to Russia, their attack obviously fizzled out. And Azerbaijan will hardly be able to change the situation. This is the reason for the propaganda statements on Azerbaijan’s ‘unilateral ceasefire,’ which should not be trusted. Hostilities are actually going on.

Fighting continues, Armenian forces hold the initiative

Heavy fighting continues in the northern and southern directions of the line of contact of armed forces of Nagorno Karabakh and Azerbaijan, Spokesman for the Armenian Ministry of Defense Artsrun Hovhannisyan said. He added, however, that the Armenian side holds the initiative and there can be no talk about Azerbaijan’s success.

“We continue to take measures to restrain the actions of the rival, and are dictating the situation on many sections of the frontline. It should be noted, however, that the heavy fighting continues at some parts of the line of contact, where the rival has accumulated a large amount of armaments,” he said.

The Spokesman advises to ignore Azeri reports on the loss of Armenian troops and combat equipment and notes that the information is meant to create panic, as information war is an indispensable part of contemporary war.

Wow, we have done some serious damage here. Incredible work by these brave soldiers. It makes the challenges of our lives so trivial. God bless them.

I trust we have to take back all lost positions immediately, as if they become the 'new normal' then AZ will capture our next attack on film, and use as propaganda that we are the instigators.

These corpse pictures where they're all mangled together make me unsettled- we don't want them used as propaganda inside AZ to stir further blood lust. I hope we handle them respectfully and only use these to show the AZ government lies to its people. We are civilized, fighting a type of people who fire rockets indiscriminately at children.

BTW I read that their government claim was that these pictures are fake, because the soldiers are in summer uniform when they would be in winter uniform right now. Ridiculous.

I really think this was a move to start a war by azerbaijan.
The fact that their economy is going to hell due to oil prices , the fact that aliev is getting more hate , the fact that Armenia just bought weapons of Russia were all reasons enough for them to start a new war.

They wanted to gain as much ground as possible and fast. Thanks God they failed miserably. My guess is that if they suceeded here and controlled new ground that a new official war would have started.
