Stepanakert Airport is classified as a Military Airbase operated under NK Defense Forces.

The airport is at an elevation 2000 ft MSL (above sea level), single runway (headings 05/23), with usable runway length of 7100 ft (plenty of asphalt for most military aircraft, however say a Boing 747 will be at its limmits and dangerous to attempt a landing or stop in time on a rejected take-off fully loaded).

So far the airport is not listed (does not have a code) under ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization).............however I am sure it is listed under aviation sectional charts used by pilots issued by Armenia and Russia.

Karabakh Armed Forces Holds Major Drills Near Border

STEPANAKERT (RFE/RL)—The Nagorno-Karabakh Republic’s armed forces held on Friday what appeared to be large-scale military exercises monitored by Armenia’s visiting President Serzh Sarkisian and Defense Minister Seyran Ohanian.

The regular exercises began on November 1 in the Armenian-controlled section of the Aghdam district east of Karabakh, just kilometers away from Azerbaijani army positions.

Sarkisian and Ohanian, both of them natives and former military leaders of Nagorno-Karabakh, watched the final phase of the war games together with the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic’s leadership. Their press offices issued no statements in connection with that as of late evening.

The Armenian president was expected to inaugurate on Saturday newly constructed apartment buildings for Karabakh Armenian military personnel. He likewise opened a new military base during a June visit to Karabakh.

The Karabakh government and military made no officials statements on the exercises involving heavy artillery and other military hardware. Nor did they allow local journalists be present at the drills.

News reports from Baku said powerful explosions could be heard in Azerbaijani-controlled territories close to the Armenian-Azerbaijani “line of contact” in recent days.

The APA news agency said heavy fire across the frontline intensified on Friday, causing tremors in nearby Azerbaijani towns and villages. Citing local residents, it suggested that the Karabakh forces are holding their largest ever exercises.

The drills come against the backdrop of more frequent cease-fire violations reported from various sections of the frontline in recent months. Meeting in Russia late last month, Sarkisian and Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev pledged to bolster the ceasefire regime.

Incidentally, Aliyev visited the Azerbaijani-controlled section of Aghdam and adjacent areas earlier this week. Speaking in the town of Yevlakh, he again warned that Baku will try to win back Karabakh and Azerbaijani districts surrounding it by force if the protracted peace talks with Armenia yield no tangible results soon. “I have no doubts that our armed forces are capable of achieving objectives set for them with honor and within a short period of time,” Aliyev said, according to Day.az.

          So would the Azerbaijani.
Politics is not about the pursuit of morality nor what's right or wrong
Its about self interest at personal and national level often at odds with the above.
Great politicians pursue the National interest and small politicians personal interests

                    here is there response

Azerbaijan’s Defense Ministry: “Armenians’ military exercises in Nagorno Karabakh remind childish sports”

                    [ 13 Nov 2010 14:03 ]
Baku - APA. “If we calculate, then we will see that such exercises have been held more than ten times from the beginning of the year till now.

It does not aim to increasing of combat readiness. Their exercises remind childish sports. And there cannot be another assessment”, Chief of press service of Azerbaijan’s Defense Ministry Eldar Sabiroglu said in his respond to APA’s question on Armenian president Serzh Sargsyan’s participation in exercises in Nagorno Karabakh.

Sabiroglu noted that holding of such exercises is so difficult that it must be planned beforehand and attentively: “And it needs much time. It needs several important factors, especially great sum of money. As you know, today, Armenia and its military forces gathered in the territories of Azerbaijan do not have such opportunities. Just imagine the state of military power of a country with ruined economy. They cannot deceive anyone with such trickery. It is impossible to increase combat readiness in this manner”.

Sabiroglu wanted to draw attention to another substantial moment: “When Azerbaijan announces something true on ruined and unorganized situation of Armenia, or something about decisive attitude in the direction of solution to the conflict, it begins to demonstrate 5-6 tanks and 1-2 combat vehicles in Nagorno Karabakh and calls it large-scale military exercise. These are delusive methods. Such tricks do not create public opinion. Unfortunately, Armenians do not get tired of such deceptive acts. May be it is some kind of illness or hopelessness. But they must be absolutely sure that it is impossible to change something or impact on something with such cheap shows”.
they are just acting childish again. without even knowing what took place during the drills they are claiming it wasnt anything big. i think they are trying to convince themselves this, its for internal purposes only.
