No, you are exaggerating or understood it wrong.
Since Armenia is a member of the Eurasian Union and Iran is not, it's against the law of EEU to bring in cars from Iran, since you can drive it all the way to Russia and sell it there, since there are no economic borders (supposedly).
My relative brought his car from Dubai without paying customs fees and registered it in Armenia under the "Hayrenatarts" law.
I brought 1 ton of furniture and household items which are my own belonging from Beirut to Armenia without paying customs also under the same law.
It has nothing to do with oligarchs at all.
You can order any car you want from the USA online and get it shipped to port of Poti in Georgia, and then get it to Armenia.
Or you can go to Russia and drive any car you want and get it to Armenia without customs or VAT.
It's more about the lousy Eurasian Union pushing Armenians away from the Iranian market where they produce cars, than oligarchs.

There can still be solutions even if EEU partnership is not going to be in the cards for Iran. Georgia is a good example of a non EEU country we do trade with/through. The Iran market is way bigger than Israeli market so it would be foolish to turn down Iran in favor of Israel. Other considerations may be involved of course but economically it makes so sense to exclude Iran.

EEU was a mistake. Anybody at this time saying otherwise obviously has a special interest.

My point is EEU does not want to open the tap for Armenian-Iranian trade. They do not see Israel as a threat since it's far with pricey goods to that of Russian/Belarusian. But Iran has everything that Russia and Belarus might have (other than vodka) and it's a pure win for Armenia to do trade with Iran since there's not transit through any other country.

EEU was the biggest mistake during the post-independence period.
I am not a Russia hater, I love their weapons and women. But I love my country above everything, and right here in Armenia, you can see that joining the EEU was a big mistake from all angels.

              Agree. EEU is a waste.

It is too early to render judgement on an organization still in the forming stages which is being sabotaged by powerful outside forces. Iran would make a excellent addition to EEU as it can replace Turkey in pretty much every way. Iran's products are very different from Russian products so I am not sure why you say they are not. Things like climate, technology and culture dictate these differences. Many people are used to the western perspective and are blinding themselves to the eastern shift of power. The world is changing and it seems our leaders are much more aware of this change vs most of our people.

The world is changing and we are on the dividing lines. Long are gone Western goods and dominance. We are entering the Asian century where Western financial games are desperately trying the control it.
Small unions will be ineffective without any major manufacturing base. Russia should start shifting its population (if any left) Eastwards, building new infrastructures away from European controlling, decaying arrogance. Putin once said “Britain is a small island” he is right! Their control is coming to an end, Russia has to act on it.

Once again, our confused friend not only still backs everything and anything Russian but also makes sure to throw more shade on the west. I'm not even sure how the west is relevant in this conversation??

                      As I said.

Armenia should have taken its time and sorted out its economic issues before making a commitment like this. Nearly none of the promises made in exchange with us joining have been delivered.
