Re: Nagorno-Karabagh: Military Balance Between Armenia & Azerbaijan
- Who in his right mind would open a static military base such as the one shown in the photos in Tartar which can be targeted with your everyday BM-21 Grad MRLS?
- Great stuff for internal consumption. Probably they gathered all the BMP-3s they got for the photos and most probably they will be sent back to Baku to protect donkiyev.
Azerbaijan opens its new military base near the breakaway Nagorno-Karabakh region
President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Commander in Chief Ilham Aliyev has attended the opening of a newly built military base of the Ministry of Defense in Tartar district, near the breakaway Nagorno-Karabakh region.
The new military base in Tartar district has headquarters, two barracks, a canteen, a medical center, and a laundry service in the territory of the military unit. There is also a sports village where servicemen can do different sports. The military unit is supplied with state-of-the-art equipment.
There are photo stands in the building reflecting national leader Heydar Aliyev`s and President Ilham Aliyev`s attention to army building and their meetings with servicemen.
Under President Ilham Aliyev`s leadership, material and technical resources of Azerbaijan`s army have strengthened dramatically over the last few years, making Azerbaijan`s military one of the strongest armies in the world.
Nagorno-Karabakh is a disputed territory, internationally recognized as part of Azerbaijan, but most of the region is governed by the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic, a de facto independent state with Armenian ethnic majority established on the basis of the Nagorno-Karabakh Autonomous Oblast of the Azerbaijan Soviet Socialist Republic. Azerbaijan has not exercised political authority over the region since the advent of the Karabakh movement in 1988. Since the end of the Nagorno-Karabakh War in 1994, representatives of the governments of Armenia and Azerbaijan have been holding peace talks mediated by the OSCE Minsk Group on the region’s disputed status.

Also as you said, what a retarded place to open a base. If another April occurs I imagine the first place we will shell will be that base, hopefully they are retarded enough to keep the BMP-3's there so that they can be taken out along with the base. What a waste of money.
