Walking museum?really? We have an amazing air defense system, our ballistic missile corps are one of the best in the world compared to our army's size,we have a well armed artillery brigade and we're even equipped with the most powerful rockets out there(smerch,tos-1A),the vast majority of our tanks and bmps are being upgraded, our special forces and snipers are the most motivated, elite soldiers in the Caucasus region...we also have a blooming defense/arms/drones industry which is getting the support of the ministry of defense and you must not forget that after the april war, huge and notable improvements were made to our army.We may not have as much big bucks as shekelistan, but for a country of our size and our financial capabilities, what we were capable of is far from impressive, and we have developed our army amazingly in the past 26 years...walking museum?think again

True that. The one thing that really makes the Armenian military "look" outdated though is the communication equipment. it seems dated.

Looking at it further, the number of older equipment worries me in the sense that a lot of these platforms are proven to be really dangerous for the operations. Take for example our BMP-1s and 2s. It would make sense to put our ZU-23s on these to use for air defense / drone defense instead of troop transport.

Our old tank's should be used as APCs, and we really shouldn't have so many MBTs such as the T-72 if we know that we are going A) fight in the mountains and B) the T-72s can be knocked out by anti tank missiles easily.

That is a bit wrong assesment.
You have to compare to armies in your region.
Being abvious that our army currently is comparable to or more stronger than something like Syrian or Iraqui armies is possible.
Look into others. Turkey could not manage against ISIS or Kurdish in Syria.
The size matters but not 100%.
If you are going to compare us to NATO then you should take Russia on our side into account. That goes against Turkey too.
          Are we comparanle to hezbollah?
I think so, we could top them. And in 2006 hezbollah kicked Israeli ass.
One thing that Syria, Hezbollah and kurds lack is air defence, which we are saturated.
It all comes to fighting spirit.
In last aprill, I concider that our army withstood not just azeri, but turkish trained and in a way turkish encroached event.
Today's large armies matter, but strategically getting stung and mired in standoff with small but spirited opponent does change picture for armies like turkish, Iranian or even Russian.
So we have to look at what is our objectives and how are we doing at meeting them.
Nobody still has not qualified some of our army's statements like modernising our scuds. That has been said and done about 10 years ago.
If we have modernised them to today's controll and navigation systems, which I think does not take a lot, thrn those could be more potent then Iskanders with longer range and allmost a ton of warhead. So were looking at ability to withstand, do serious losses to enemy and then hit points that can send world stockmarkets spinning.
If Syria had Iskanders and our kind of air defences then Israel would not dare to send arplains to bomb.
Then look at our topography and see if large armies can use their equipment easily?
We see all the time that simple RPG does the job time and again, let alone guided tank killers that we have.
It all comes down to fighting spirit.

I do think Armenia has the full strength to beat Azerbaijan. Even with Azeri's outnumbering Armenia 3/4-1, with oil money. Armenia has strengths of geography and organization. There are areas that are severely lacking, one of which is an effective Military Intelligence branch. The Jordanians have something really impressive, and for size and ability, they do pack a punch.

"First female fighters in a decades-old conflict

Last year, clashes in a decades-old conflict between Azerbaijani and ethnic Armenian forces in the Caucasus region motivated a number of young woman and girls to challenge traditional gender roles and pick up arms."

The weapons of the Armenian Army are good enough and modern enough. There is nothing wrong with them and hardly any of it predates 1970.

One area that our army needs to work ASAP in closing the window for good is the enemy drones. Large or small.
We have to get several Pantsir S1s from Russia.
I read that azerbaijan is allready negotiating with Russia to buy them.
If russia supplies them then we should demand to get them too.
If both of us have it, situatiin will still favor us because if the skies are closed our ground forces perform much better than azeristan's.

I have the impression we might have some Anti Drone "something" and our people are quiet about it.
If not, the Pantsir S1s is the ideal system. Or for low budget one of the more advanced ZU-23 with advanced sensors.

^^^ Poles have nice modern versions of the ZU-23 that can handshake with centralized or independent radars with the unit.
