Wikileaks: Azerbaijan unlikely to defeat Armenia

    March 05, 2011 | 00:06
Azerbaijan will not be able to be structured into a large force or be equipped to a sufficient degree to overcome the advantages of territory enjoyed by the defense forces of Nagorno-Karabakh and the Armenian army even with its will to improve its military capability, the former U.S. Ambassador to Azerbaijan Anne Derse said, “Nouvelles d` Arménie” writes.

According to the cable of July 2, 2009, published on Wikileaks and “Russian reporter,” Azerbaijan is presenting a “much rosy scenario for Nagorno-Karabakh, than logically expected.”

Anne Derse served as U.S. ambassador to Azerbaijan from 2006 to 2009. Currently she is the U.S. Ambassador to Lithuania.

In a cable in January 2009, Anne Derse also noted that “the president’s rhetoric has exceeded significantly the results of military construction in Azerbaijan.

20-year-old Armenian soldier killed in ceasefire violation by Azerbaijani side

      March 04, 2011 | 19:02
An Armenian soldier was killed as a result of ceasefire violation by the Azerbaijani side on Friday in the north-eastern direction of the line of contact between the armed forces of Azerbaijan and Nagorno-Karabakh.

Grigor Shakhkanyan (born in 1991) was killed in an incident, press service of the NKR defense army informed Armenian News-NEWS.am.

It is the second incident registered within recent two days. Yesterday Hovhannes Avdalyan (born in 1991), a conscript soldier of the NKR Defense Army, was injured in ceasefire violation by the Azerbaijani side.
They are saying it was a sniper who killed him

      Azeris Kill Another Karabakh Soldier

YEREVAN (RFE/RL)—An Armenian soldier was shot dead by Azeri snipers on Friday in continuing skirmishes along the main Armenian-Azerbaijani “line of contact” around Nagorno-Karabakh.
Military authorities in Karabakh said the 19-year-old Grigor Shakhkanian died in the Karabakh’s northeast in a ceasefire violation committed by Azerbaijani forces. Another Karabakh Armenian soldier was lightly wounded there on Thursday.
The latest deadly incident came the day before fresh talks between Armenia’s and Azerbaijan’s presidents that will be hosted by their Russian counterpart, Dmitry Medvedev, in the Black Sea city of Sochi. Russia and other mediating powers hope that the parties will move closer to signing a framework peace accord proposed by them.

From the Zinuj programs of the last few months, I identified 3 new weapons that were not previously shown in our posession:

          - The METIS anti-tank missile

          - The SHMEL/RPO rocket launcher with thermobaric or incendiary warhead

          - The STRELA-10 (SAM-13) short range antiaircraft system.

Unlike the Azerbaijanis, our ministry of defense is very secretive about the weapons it receives. It will be interesting to see if they will display some novelties at the next military parade this year.

              .
These are pilots nightmare due to its higher charge and better proximity fuse. They can also target small objects like the surveillance UAVs Azeris own.

It seems Wikipedia already shows we have Strela-10.

I think the one which was shown was a 9K31 Strela-1(on BRDM), but i'm not sure
