While Baku may appreciate Russia’s strategic influence in the Caucasus, Azerbaijani officials have repeatedly and vociferously objected to Russia’s recent 49-year lease on the Gyumri base. Editor's note: Marianna Grigoryan is a freelance reporter based in Yerevan and editor of MediaLab.am.

Vociferously....must mean barking like a dog and kicking like a donkey while being totally budhurt.

The Georgian blockade of Gyumri can work in Armenia's interest also it can force to strengthen Russian/Iran relations.

        I don't either.

There are always options, and risks must be considered....however a stalemate is no answer for victors.

Well this is interesting to think about. We keep meeting with the Georgians and talking about "good relations" but they hurt us like this. I am doubtful honestly that Azeris would allow active shipment of weapons to us through their air space. Of course getting weapons from Iran is difficult to do (as the article states) but it may be our only viable option, given nothing comes up.

We should have gone the few extra miles and finished the azeries off. Instead we listened again to people who lead us astray and got us killed. These Allies don't even admit Genocide yet we listened to them again. So let us bring out the record player, and play the same scratchy track, after all " we never learn " has been played over and over. Please don't complain about the pops and hiss in the recording, you never heard the message to begin with.

Let us not shoot back becuase " we observe " again?

...None of which will ever be fired in a way that will affect the military balance between Armenia and Azerbaijan. I bet they do interest NATO though. This reminded me of the mobile radar station with a huge rotating antenna that I saw last year inside the Turkish army base at Subatan on the road to Ani. Manned by American personel, it had been moving around the border areas for several months, trying out various observation positions.
