Uruguay can recognize Nagorno-Karabakh as independent state – TV channel

YEREVAN. – Uruguay FM Luis Almagro on Friday made a surprising statement on the Karabakh issue.

“I believe Nagorno-Karabakh should be independent and be united to Armenia in time. This is the only way to resolve the issue,” Almagro said at the Uruguay parliamentary conference devoted to the Armenian-Uruguay relations, Yerkir Media TV channel quotes.

Uruguay FM stated also that Karabakh is the historical part of Armenia. Uruguay currently studies the case to recognize the state officially.

Uruguay was also the first state in the world to recognize the Armenian Genocide implemented by the Turks in 1915.
