Hezbollah, which has the 9M133 Kornet, believes that they are not enough to defeat a modern tank with anti-missile systems ( http://www.jpost.com/Defense/Article.aspx?id=210366 ).

Hezbollah now trains several teams to work together to peel the defenses of a tank. The first teams to attack use recoilless guns (B-10/B-11/SPG-82/SPG-9) and RPGs to destroy anti-missile systems and reactive armor. When those teams start to hit the tank, then teams with missiles attack. This was reported in the book, Hezbollah Warriors of God, by Nicholas Blanford.

Another idea is that when tanks can detect lasers and jam or intercept modern SACLOS anti-tank missiles ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SACLOS ), you have to think about taking old MCLOS AT-3 Saggers and replacing the guidance wire with fiber-optic cable (wire acts like an antenna for jammers). Since they are much cheaper but less accurate than modern missiles, you must fire a volley of several Saggers. A volley of 5 or 6 old missiles is now better than one modern missile when fighting a modern tank.

So, before the tank defenses are gone no missile will work, and after the defenses are gone any missile will work. Old weapons used in new ways with good communication between special teams. There is nothing more important than to be clever, disciplined, take initiative, and work together.

Interesting thoughts. Though the second idea doesn't sound very practical, since you need more manpower and time per tank in an intense battlefield.
We really need to stock up on as much ATGMs as possible, also improve supply lines from Armenia.
the great merkava had a rough time in mountainous terrain in a guerrilla war , who didn't have regular uniform. It'll be interesting to see how T-90 and Altay(korean copycat) fair in Artsakh, provided they even get there. My bet is on T-90 since it's much lighter and maneuverable.

IMHO, most of the next war will happen in their desert plains, which will give those T-90 and altays a run for their money, which is why they're acquiring them in the first place.

Air defence force of Russia military base begins muster in Armenia

YEREVAN March 16


The air defence force of the Russian military base in Armenia began a
muster at the highland training centre Alagyaz, Capt. Kirill Kiselev,
who is an officer of the press service in the Southern Military
District in Gyumri, where the major facilities of the military base
are deployed, told Itar-Tass on Friday.

Russian servicemen passed a 100-kilometer march to the fire training
range. The field muster, which will last more than a month, will end
with special exercises and live fire drills from the air defence
self-propelled system Shilka, the air defence system Strela-10 and the
mobile air defence system Igla.

At the tactical exercises the air defence troops will drill the tasks
of a defensive battle in the highlands, when the enemy uses high
precision weapons and electronic countermeasures, Kiselev said.

As part of scheduled drills the servicemen will have live fire drills
on air targets in the conditions, which are very close to combat
conditions, from reinforced positions and at a brief stop in the
movement of the military convoy.

More than 200 servicemen, about 30 pieces of weapons and military
hardware are involved in the field exercises.

The staff of the air defence units at the Russian military base that
are on combat duty in the CIS united air defence system will show the
level of their skills at fire drills at the Kapustin Yar fire range in
the Astrakhan Region this spring.

The Russian military base is deployed in Armenia under the
Russian-Armenian interstate agreement. The republican authorities
consider the deployment of the Russian military base in the country
along with Russian border guards as an important component of Armenian
national security.

it's unfortunate that they (and armenian forces on turkish border) mostly train defensive maneuvers, we should train attacking maneuvers too for hayastan's sake!
what's the point of repelling an attack, if turks can regroup, replace their troops, and send them again? we should be planning to make strategic depth inside their territories, so it'll be harder for them to attack. sigh.
