I couldn't find the original post of Federate.
The article tells a helicopter carrying Azeri and Russian officials over Agdam (in Karabagh) and shot by Armenians. According to the article, still we don't know why so many important people (especially Azeri ones are high officials) were together and without any other helicopters that would defend them.
It's presented as if it was a Russian conspiracy against Azeris.

Belief in an "Armenian International Conspiracy", that ethnic Armenians are attempting to change history and hide certain facts for political gain, can also be encountered in Azerbaijan,[5] which has clashed with Armenia over Nagorno Karabakh, a de facto independent republic, officially part of Azerbaijan. Many Azeris believe that the Sumgait pogrom, where ethnic Azeris massacred Armenians during the dissolution of the Soviet Union, was in fact intentionally provoked by Armenians for propaganda purposes. The Sumgait pogrom is considered the primary trigger of the Nagorno Karabakh war.

In an article that appeared in an Azerbaijani journal, Bunyadov claimed that Armenians had organized the pogroms: "The Sumgait tragedy was carefully prepared by Armenian nationalists...Several hours after it began, Armenian photographers and TV journalists secretly entered the city where they awaited in readiness."

Davud Imanov, an Azerbaijani filmmaker, expanded on this theory in a series of films called the Echo of Sumgait where he accused Armenians, Russians and Americans of conspiring together against Azerbaijan and claiming that Karabakh movement was a plot organized by the CIA.

Former Azerbaijani serviceman who raped and tortured Azerbaijani captives in Armenia undergoes trial in Baku

The Military court of grave crimes holds hearing on the criminal case of former Azerbaijani army soldier, resident of Hurai village of Gusar region Elmar Guliyev born in 1966.

He is charged with high treason, application of torture against Armenian-captured Azerbaijani citizens. The events occurred in 1993 in Shusha jail.

The hearing is held in private.

Under the materials of the case, on March 31 of 1993 Elmar Guliyev, serving in N military unit of the Defense Ministry of Azerbaijan, surrendered to Armenians on a goodwill basis. from March 31 until November 22 of 1993 he was attracted to cooperation by the bodies of Armenian special services and disclosed the military secrets to Armenian servicemen.

By Armenians' instructions, Elmar Guluyev beat citizens of Azerbaijan, held in Armenian captivity in Shusha jail and together with Armenian servicemen tortured the Azerbaijani captives, humiliating them brutally.

Before the eyes of Armenian jail keepers he raped two Azerbaijani citizens in an untraditional way.

He was detained on August 20 of 2008 and charged under articles 274 (high treason) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan.

The rally held in "Imam Huseyn" square of Nardaran protesting against the military operations of Israel in Palestine has ended. APA’s correspondent reports from Nardaran that flags of the US and Israel, effigies of the U.S. President George Bush and Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert were burnt in the rally.

The protesters chanted slogans "We share the grief of Gaza!", "Death to America and Israel!", "US hates the world Muslims!".

APA’s correspondent reports from Nardaran that the protesters chanted slogans "We share the grief of Gaza!", "Death to America and Israel!", "US hates the world Muslims!". Nardaran resident Haji Ali Huseynov called the happenings in Gaza "tragedy of the century".
"America, which always speaks about democracy, supports criminal Israel," he said.

Haji Ali Huseynov said some Azerbaijani intellectuals gave false information to people and betrayed the nation.

"Such intellectuals as Sabir Rustamkhanli betray the nation, slander "Seher" TV channel (Iranian channel), which covers Azerbaijan’s problems. For these actions, an elderly man of Nardaran issued death fatwa against Sabir Rustamkhanli. Sabir Rustamkhanli would rather increase the number of his bodyguards," he said.

Nardaran resident Haji Hikmat Mammadov called on Azerbaijani government to focus attention on the happenings in Gaza.

MP Sabir Rustamkhanli told APA that "Seher" TV channel of Iran broadcasted false programs and reports about him.

"Why were Nardaran residents silent when an Iranian TV channel gave false information about an Azeri citizen? If they are indeed Azerbaijanis, they should answer these slanders, not defend the slanderer…”" he said.

You see, where they come from (the Jungle), there are two ways of raping someone. The traditional accepted way where you can knock yourself out and the dreaded "untraditional way" where you will get life sentence. I'm deducing that the "untraditional way" of rape is when you rape your fellow countrymen in front of Armenians. Everything else is fine.

Strong blast occurs in building in Azerbaijan’s capital, casualties reported - UPDATED

Strong blast occurred in Nasimi district of Baku. Nasimi district police office told APA that it happened in the fifth floor of the five-storey building in Javad Khan Street, 30.

Etibar Mirzayev, Deputy Minister of Emergency Situations made a report on blasted building in Nasimi district, APA’s correspondent reports from the site.

The Deputy Minister noted that the Ministry carried out operations while receiving information about blast of building at 16.40. Two died and four were injured in the aftermath of the blast occurred in the fifth floor of the five-storey building in Javad Khan Street, 30. One of the dead is a young girl, other one is 60-year-old man.

The Deputy Minister said gas leak supposedly caused the blast. Rescue operations continue. The investigation is under way.

Assistant of the head physician of Baku Emergency Aid Station Rauf Nagiyev told APA’s correspondent at the site that 2 bodies had been taken out of wreckage, 7 had been injured.

Law-enforcers, fire fighters, Deputy Minister of Emergency Situations Etibar Mirzayev and ambulances have arrived at the site. The fire has been extinguished. Rescue operations continue.

One of the injured residents, Sureyya Sadigova, 38, had closed head injury and was taken to the resuscitation department of Republic Hospital named after Academician Mirgasimov. She is in critical condition.

6 injured residents were taken to Clinic Medical Center.

According to Interfax-Azerbaijan, fourth and fifth floors of a five storied building were damaged. Four flats on the corner of the building were hit by the blast.

Four people suffered by unchecked information, it is unclear where anyone died.

Over 10 cars of the fire-fighting vehicles of the Ministry of Emergency Situations and several ambulances work on the spot.

Nardaran residents held protest action in Imam Husayn square on Israel’s military offensive into Gaza Strip, APA’s correspondent reports from the site.

A protest action against the Israel’s military operations in Gaza Strip was held on Friday in the Imam Hussein Square of Nardaran Village of Baku.

APA correspondent reports from Nardaran that resident of Nardaran, former chairman of the Islamic party Haji Hajiaga Nuri, who led the protest action, said sabotage and slanders were published in Azerbaijani press against Nardaran recently. He said it was done purposely. “Those, who are doing that, are working for xxxs. They tried to put Nardaran face to face with intellectuals, lawmakers and government of Azerbaijan. Even some newspapers related the protest actions in Nardaran with Sheikh-al-Islam Allahshukur Pashazadeh. We are protesting against it and all slanders about us. A referendum and municipal elections will take place in Azerbaijan. Nardaran residents will also vote freely”.

One of the villagers Mashadi Mehman Mammadov said his words at the meeting on January 9 about the military service in Azerbaijan were misunderstood. “We are ready to defend Azerbaijan”.

The protesters adopted resolution expressing their solidarity with the Palestinians and addressing demands to the Azerbaijani government about Israel. The residents of Nardaran demanded Azerbaijani government to cut all relations with Israel, including military ties and to boycott products of joint enterprises with that country.

The protesters also burned US and Israel’s flags and effigies of US President George Bush and Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, chanting “Death to US and Israel”, “We are with Gaza”, “US terrorizes the world Muslims”.

Several apartments belonging to xxxs were robbed. According to preliminary data, 12 injured, some of them knifed, were hospitalized.

The outbreak of violence is probably conditioned by recent events in the Gaza Strip. Azerbaijan’s indignation with the xxxish community dates back to 2006, when xxxs openly supported Israel’s offensive in Lebanon.

Gay Novel Shocks Azeris

Book about love affair between Azeri and Armenian sells well, despite uproar over its publication.

Artush and Zaur were two schoolchildren growing up in the great multi-ethnic city of Baku, but fate was not kind to them. Just when they were discovering their love for each other, they were torn apart by war.

Artush, an Armenian, ended up in Armenia, while the Azeri Zaur was left to mourn the memories of his lost love as he walked the streets of Azerbaijan’s capital.

As a plot for a novel, it is not the most original in the world. But the twist has shocked Azerbaijan and made author Alekper Aliev infamous in his homeland. For both Zaur and Artush are men.

Setting a love affair between two men in the midst of the conflict over the region of Karabakh, which is ruled by Armenians but claimed by Azerbaijan, has proved controversial.

“I think that only a sick or completely cynical person could write such gibberish, someone who spits on his own country and on the millions of people harmed by the Karabakh war. It is just filth, that’s what it is,” said Sultan Gafarov, a student in Baku.

Such attitudes are widespread in the country. Homosexuality has been legal in Azerbaijan since September 2000, and it is illegal to discriminate against homosexuals, but openly gay Azeris meet abuse in many areas of life.

“There is xenophobia against homosexuals in society, which is stirred up by publications about AIDS. It is not universal. For example, homosexuals who achieve a high place in society are not criticised. In society, a rich homosexual appears more of a man than a poor heterosexual,” said Eldar Zeynalov, director of the Human Rights Centre of Azerbaijan.

In such a complex atmosphere, Aliev knew that publishing his book would not prove easy.

“In Azerbaijan not one publishing house would agree to issue a homoerotic book, which in their opinion dirtied the good name of the Azeri people,” he told IWPR.

“The main theme of the book is the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan, the theme of homosexuality is not essential, just a way of attracting attention. Everyone knows the negative opinion of homosexuality in the South Caucasus. Against this background, I tried to show the mosaic of conflicts in the three neighbouring republics.”

He finally had to publish it through a private publishing house last month, but it has proved successful. One shopkeeper said the controversial novel had been “selling like hot cakes”.

“I am very glad that a novel finally emerged to shock conservative opinion in Azerbaijan. This is long overdue, to break stereotypes, to have a joke with public opinion,” said Khanlar Agayev, a businessman in Baku.

“I hope now the author manages to survive the many attacks that will come from readers and critics.”

Such attacks have come from all sides, including from the religious hierarchy in the mainly Muslim country. Haji Fuad Nurulla, deacon of the Baku Islamic University, is among the strongest opponents of homosexuality, which he thinks has come in from abroad and is weakening national culture.

“In the Koran this is strongly condemned. It is a sin, abnormal. It is completely unacceptable for a man to wear women’s clothes, to behave like a woman,” he said.

“Such people must be isolated from healthy members of society, so they do not infect them.”

Only one charity is helping Azerbaijan’s homosexuals with the difficulties of life in such an environment, the Union of Gender Development and Flourishment, which started work in 2006. Its funding primarily comes from The Netherlands. According to its chairman, Kamran Rzayev, homosexuals in the country have most trouble within their own families.

“There have been cases when parents, finding out about the non-traditional orientation of their children, have beaten them and thrown them out of the house,” he said.

“In such cases, we provide psychological support to these boys and girls and try to speak to their parents. Some parents, particularly those who are younger, come to our office themselves, and we explain that their children are not drug addicts, are not criminals, they are normal people who work, earn money, study, have their own interests.”

Natavan, a lesbian, is among the young people who gathered in the organisation’s kitchens to smoke and talk about their lives. She said her parents knew about it, but they did not talk about it in the family.

“Any conversation turns into an argument. They think it is a perversion, and probably think I am an ill-fated child,” she said.

“I want to have a normal family, I would like to live together with a loved one. But men just don’t interest me, and if I lived with a woman then everyone would spurn me.”

Rzayev said that a handful of single-sex couples do live in Baku, and that some of them had even been together for a decade or more. Some had even gone abroad to have their union recognised in one of the countries were gay marriage is legal.

As it turned out, that is exactly what happened to Artush and Zaur. After long years separated by the tense relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, which have still not signed a peace deal, they find each other in Tbiliisi – a city where Azeris and Armenians can go and be friends again – and were married by a friend of Georgian president Mikheil Saakashvili’s Dutch wife.
