You agree, through your use of this service, that you will not use this forum to post any material which is:
- abusive
- vulgar
- hateful
- harassing
- personal attacks
- obscene

You also may not:
- post images that are too large (max is 500*500px)
- post any copyrighted material unless the copyright is owned by you or cited properly.
- post in UPPER CASE, which is considered yelling
- post messages which insult the Armenians, Armenian culture, traditions, etc
- post racist or other intentionally insensitive material that insults or attacks another culture (including Turks)

The Ankap thread is excluded from the strict rules because that place is more relaxed and you can vent and engage in light insults and humor. Notice it's not a blank ticket, but just a place to vent. If you go into the Ankap thread, you enter at your own risk of being clowned on.
What you PROBABLY SHOULD NOT post...
Do not post information that you will regret putting out in public. This site comes up on Google, is cached, and all of that, so be aware of that as you post. Do not ask the staff to go through and delete things that you regret making available on the web for all to see because we will not do it. Think before you post!

2] Use descriptive subject lines & research your post. This means use the SEARCH.

This reduces the chances of double-posting and it also makes it easier for people to see what they do/don't want to read. Using the search function will identify existing threads on the topic so we do not have multiple threads on the same topic.

3] Keep the focus.

Each forum has a focus on a certain topic. Questions outside the scope of a certain forum will either be moved to the appropriate forum, closed, or simply be deleted. Please post your topic in the most appropriate forum. Users that keep doing this will be warned, then banned.

4] Behave as you would in a public location.

This forum is no different than a public place. Behave yourself and act like a decent human being (i.e. be respectful). If you're unable to do so, you're not welcome here and will be made to leave.

5] Respect the authority of moderators/admins.

Public discussions of moderator/admin actions are not allowed on the forum. It is also prohibited to protest moderator actions in titles, avatars, and signatures. If you don't like something that a moderator did, PM or email the moderator and try your best to resolve the problem or difference in private.

6] Promotion of sites or products is not permitted.

Advertisements are not allowed in this venue. No blatant advertising or solicitations of or for business is prohibited.
This includes, but not limited to, personal resumes and links to products or
services with which the poster is affiliated, whether or not a fee is charged
for the product or service. Spamming, in which a user posts the same message repeatedly, is also prohibited.

7] We retain the right to remove any posts and/or Members for any reason, without prior notice.

- PLEASE READ -

Members are welcome to read posts and though we encourage your active participation in the forum, it is not required. If you do participate by posting, however, we expect that on the whole you contribute something to the forum. This means that the bulk of your posts should not be in "fun" threads (e.g. Ankap, Keep & Kill, This or That, etc.). Further, while occasionally it is appropriate to simply voice your agreement or approval, not all of your posts should be of this variety: "LOL Member213!" "I agree."
If it is evident that a member is simply posting for the sake of posting, they will be removed.

8] These Rules & Guidelines may be amended at any time. (last update September 17, 2009)

If you believe an individual is repeatedly breaking the rules, please report to admin/moderator.

Azerbaijan drops to 163rd/180 in press freedom. 16 to go to North Korea. Almost there

No quarter in war on remaining critics

Not content with crushing all forms of pluralism, President Ilham Aliev has been waging a relentless war against his remaining critics since 2014. Independent journalists and bloggers are thrown in prison if they do not first yield to harassment, beatings, blackmail or bribes. Some independent media, such as Zerkalo and Azadlig, have been stifled economically. Others, such as Radio Azadlig, have been closed by force. In a bid to get the most recalcitrant (or those who continue to resist in exile, such as Emin Milli and Ganimat Zahid) to submit, the authorities also harass family members.

Javid Ramzanli: Education with vast diapason of world view is encouraged among Armenians, and Azerbaijan needs to learn from them

        CULTURE 10:59 29/04/2016 ARMENIA

        Inline images 1

“No matter what door is opened, an Armenian surely appears from there. They have an infinite and innumerable quantity of people -- literary critics, scientists, political, public, and cultural figures, actors, footballers, even show business celebrities,” Azerbaijani columnist Javid Ramzanli writes forkultura.az.

The author particularly notes that the winner of this year’s Pulitzer Prize in Poetry was an Armenian -- Peter Balakian -- for his “Ozone Journal.” “Knowing people are aware that Pulitzer is the most authoritative award in the field of literature, journalism, photography, etc. in the US. Being a Pulitzer laureate means having a world recognition, and having all the doors opened,” Ramzanli writes.

Drawing comparison with the Azerbaijani society, the author notes that education, erudition with a vast diapason of world view, learning languages, studying arts are a norm and are permanently encouraged among the Armenians. Whereas the Azerbaijanis “try to compete with the Armenians for some reason not in those spheres, but in the field of ‘dolma-badimjan-zurna-balaban’.”

The author emphasizes that even if the Armenians are considered enemies in Azerbaijan, it is necessary to learn from them. However, he thinks that Azerbaijan has almost lost the convenient historical moment, which is already slipping out of its hands. “Billions of oil dollars have been spent not on the cultivation of the healthy thinking, specialists, an educated and perspective generation, but on singers, and luxury, which served as a satisfaction of the country’s own ego. Instead of investing in people, they invested in marble and concrete,” the author writes adding that the authorities refuse to send the Azerbaijani youth to study abroad owing to the absence of financial resources.

The author writes that the Armenian diaspora, on the contrary, meeting young people with at least a small thirst for study in the most remote places of Armenia, takes them to America, Europe, etc., creates all the opportunities for them to study and become respected people, who can present the Armenian nation in the world. The Azerbaijani officials “destroy their home” and complain that the world favors the Armenians.

Ramzanli also analyses the events unfolded during the early April escalation in the Karabakh conflict zone. According to him, Azerbaijan itself is to be blame that the international press representatives could visit Armenia without any difficulty and write news from there, whereas such obstacles are created for access to Azerbaijan that people refuse to go there.

He also notes that on one hand, the war generated euphoria, but on the other hand, the number of the killed young men caused a feeling of tragedy in the society. As a result, the authorities found scapegoats – Ali Karimli and the Turkish singer Hadise. They carried out a rally in front of Karimli’s house, and “raised a howl” discovering the Armenian flag on Hadise’s dress.

Meydan TV publishes map showing Aliyev clan’s property across world

          Politics 16:10 30/04/2016 Region
According to the results of journalist investigations, information about Azerbaijani president Ilham Aliyev and his family members’ property worth billions of dollars has been periodically published in the international media. The property is both in Azerbaijan and abroad.

Azerbaijani online channel Meydan TV assisted by PIN (People in Need) has created a map of Aliyev clan’s property, on which the property plundered from the Azerbaijani population and found in different parts of the world and Azerbaijan is presented.

The map can be found here: Such countries as Italy (Sardinia), Panama, Britain (London, the Virgin Islands), Czech Republic (Karlovy Vary, Prague), Russia (Moscow), Rumania (Bucharest), Turkey (Istanbul), Georgia (Tbilisi), and Dubai are particularly noted.

According to the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP) data, in the recent years, the Aliyev clan has been involved in numerous secret business operations on several continents. It controls a considerable part of the Azerbaijani economy, gold mines, tourism, mobile communication companies, and banks through offshore companies and intermediaries. It also obtained elite real estate in various European cities and in the Persian Gulf countries.

Azerbaijani journalists, who investigated and exposed the presidential clan’s secret affairs, suffered a lot for that. They became a target for slanderous campaigns, and then they ended up in jail on trumped-up charges, as many human rights organizations state. More than 80 local political activists and oppositionists were imprisoned for criticizing the Aliyev regime, which quickly becomes the most repressive one in the region.

In June 2015, the Aliyev clan was actively involved in the organization of the European Games in Azerbaijan. While around 6000 sportsmen participated in the contests, most of the European leaders boycotted the games in protest against the aggravating human rights situation in Azerbaijan. Only a few officials from Eastern Europe, including Rumanian Prime Minister Victor Ponta, were present at the opening ceremony of the Games at the Heydar Aliyev stadium in Baku.

According to Azerbaijani economist Gubad Ibadoglu, around $200 billions of dollars have been transferred from Azerbaijan to offshore zones օn the islands in Latin America, Oceania, and Europe. To that end, banks of Muslim countries, real estate transactions abroad, gold, and stocks were used, and, as a result of the money transfer to the offshore zones, each Azerbaijani family lost tens of thousands of dollars in its budget.

Heydar Aliyev’s statue in Baku desecrated

            16:49, 10 May 2016

            Siranush Ghazanchyan

Late in the evening of May 9th, the day before the birth of former Azerbaijani President Heydar Aliyev, graffiti found its way onto a statue dedicated to the same man, in a park in Baku, Meydan TV reports.

The inscription read: “Happy Slave Day!”

The unknown author took the Azerbaijani phrase, “Gül bayramınız mübarək!”, changed the first two letters of the first word and thereby completely changed the meaning of the phrase from, “Happy Flower Day!” to “Happy Slave Day!”

Flower Day is celebrated every year in Baku and other large regional Azerbaijani cities on the 10th of May to coincide with the birthday of the former president of Azerbaijan, Heydar Aliyev.

Every year in preparation for the holiday, the government spends tens of millions of dollars on flowers from Holland, Italy, France, Turkey, China and other countries. This has elicited criticism and contempt from civil society.

            Hayastan or Bust.

Azerbaijani financial system on the edge of collapse – local media

                  19:00 - 26/May/2016

Azerbaijani haqqin.az published a material entitled The West tries to
save Azerbaijani financial system. “The World Bank published material
which testifies the catastrophic situation of the Azerbaijani banking
system,” the web site writes. According to the WB, only 36.4% of the
Azerbaijani adult population have banking account. With this index
Azerbaijan is the last among 15 post-soviet countries.

The majority of banks are getting closed because of going bankrupt.

The experts invited by Azerbaijani president stated that the US dollar
is very much rated there while the local currency is on the edge of
collapse. They offered implementation of urgent reforms for saving the
