I was wondering if there were any politicians in committee that said Ottoman Turkey was innocent of Genocide. I think not. Just that fact should be shocking to the Turkish Government and people, whether the bill passed committee or not.

The Obama US administration will seek to block a controversial bill that describes as genocide the 1915 killing of Armenians by Turks.

The US Congress Committee had narrowly approved the resolution on March 4, by 23 to 22 votes. This had paved the way for a possible vote by the House, something that the administration would seek to prevent.

Turkey reacted strongly to the vote, recalling its Ambassador from Washignton, and threatening further diplomatic protest. Turkish citizens took to the streets to voice their anger at the decision.

"We are against this decision. Now we believe that the US Congress will not take any decision on this subject," Hillary Clinton, the US Secretary of State, stated on Friday.

During his campaign for the 2008 election, Barack Obama had promised to brand the mass killings genocide.

However, Clinton has acknowledged his administration's change of opinion on the issue, saying that circumstances had "changed in very significant ways".

Turkey is a major partner in US efforts to stabilize Afghanistan and Iraq, and lies on a key route taking oil and natural gas to Western markets.

In October 2009, Turkey and Armenia signed a historic accord normalising relations between them after a century of hostility, but successive Turkish governments have refused to accept responsibility for any suggestion of genocide.

- Obama promised to adopt the word "Genocide" during his election campain. What a lier.

Don't fool yourselves. The USA has not intention of recognizing the Genocide. We are not their allies, the Turks are.

Believe me, the committee members who voted for the resolution will block it if they become the President one day.

The last time an AG bill was in committee for a vote (2007), I saw on Youtube a few of the speeches committee members made. Of all the 'Nays', not one of them said Ottoman Turkey was innocent of Genocide. All of them affirmed the truth of the Genocide but said things like "now is not the right time", etc.

For those who watched yesterday's speeches, did any member claim Ottoman Turkey was innocent of Genocide ?

Is America's relationship with Turkey really more important than the recognition of truth? Who knows though, maybe Clinton's supposed opposition to the Armenian genocide resolution is a play to make it look like she did what she could, but in reality the resolution is meant to be passed. Besides, Turkey's threats are meaningless because US relations with Turkey will soon go back to normal just as it has been in France's and Canada's case.

It differs, in one protest (organised by the Turkish government) they said "Armenian's and Greeks genocided 3 million Turk's".
