Is the trilled (or what you would consider, "hard") r (ռ) of Hayastantsis as prominently trilled by parskahays?

Re: Racism (Anti-Armenianism); a good thing?
Hayastancis speak Eastern Armenian. However, the Armenian of Parskahyes is also considered Eastern Armenian. The main thing I find weird in their speaking is their "r"'s which to me sound like they have a American accent in Armenian and some of their vowel pronunciations which I'm guessing come from Persian. We hayastancis also tend to use many Russia loan words - it's a bad habit, but that's what happens after 100 years of Soviet rule and of few generations being equally fluent in Armenian and Russian.

My guess is that Stalin pushed Armenian-Soviet integration (something that he was known for), whereas in Iran Armenians historically had much more freedom as a community. (I'm not an expert in the field of the Armenian language - but I know about Stalin.)Originally posted by Hellektor View PostThey mainly don't like our “r”s (ր). It sounds too soft for them, but it's they who have lost their soft “r” in words where the “r” is preceded by a consonant (cf. դպրոց, լրիւ, etc., that they pronounce դպռոց, լռիւ, etc.), under the influence of Russian that has only a hard “r” sound. Persian also doesn't have a soft “r” sound so it cannot be us influenced by Persian

Anyone have any stories about family members living under Stalin they want to share?

Eddojan!!!!Originally posted by Eddo211 View PostWe have an accent?
I always thought our other Diasporan brothers had the accent.
No but seriously our dialect like you said is exactly like the Armenians from Armenia and you are right, without the motherland we are all screwed.
BTW, don't feel too bad dadashie man, most Irani Armenians are here in US with the rest of the Persians who left Iran after the freaking Mullahs took over. Man I miss Tehran, I know it has changed a lot since I left.

We have an accent?Originally posted by Hellektor View PostThroughout the four centuries in Iran we have kept our Armenian identity and every Iranian Armenian speaks the language (whether you like our accent or not) and we have also kept the traditions and the Mesropian spelling. However the community will not last forever because it's only in Armenia where the Armenian nation will go on as long as the country exists.
