In all, I see EU has the country least likely to sell us. I will trust the EU political officials over Putin any-day...
It is in Turkey's interests to have good relations with everyone. Russia, Ukraine, Belarus etc have become huge trading partners for Turkey. EU chiefs wants to extert control over energy resources in the Middle east. That is why they want to bring Turkey into the EU. Anyone who questions Turkey's suitability is immediately accused of 'Islamophobia' in the media.

Yes, Putin and Russian officials are less democratic than many EU officials except in foreign policy. The wars in Iraq, Afghanistan, Yugoslavia have been supported sometimes by 99% of parliamentary representatives in certain countries. In the Soviet Union this would have been 100%. No real debate takes place in the 'democracies' about going to war, and about foreign policy in general. The media's job is to 'sell' the wars to the public, not to have an open discussion

Turkey is unlikely to war with Greece given it's domestic problems and any conflict would be restricted to Cyprus.

Their are 2.5 million Turks in Germany and the Germans are getting sick of them. As they are three times a likely to be living off welfare, don't integrate and along with their Muslim 'brothers' manage to commit nearly all the crime in the country.

European integrated, defence co-operation is lacking and EU defence spending is low. However this isn't entirely a bad thing and Europe still certainly has the capacity to defend it's self.

Whilst Europe has a far larger and more developed market than either Russia or Turkey. Europe needs to promote far higher rates of growth and as you might expect both are important regional powers and trading parners. Europe's trade with Asia is such now, that it has far more leverage in Asia than the US and it needs to extract better terms of trade from the Chinese.
