latest Water level of Sevan: 1900m.49cm on the 25 of June 2015, which +2cm compared to same day last year.
But yet, it is still lower by 7 cm with same day in 2013....
Which means we have spoiled at least the last 3 years..., in other words, we have lost at least 1 m of water level.....

If the government respects the law, and avoids more water release than the maximum 170 million cubic meters possible by law, than we must have at leat + 30 cm at the end of the year...
The spring was fairly rainy this year, and all dams were nearly full.
We will see at the end of December....

Divers at Underwater Research and Diving Armenian center are concerned
with the problems of Lake Sevan. Research has been carried out in Lake
Sevan for already 6 years. They note that one of the primary issues is
pollution and advise the people in charge to pay attention to it,
`Both the bottom of the lake and the shores are polluted. If nothing
is done, the situation will worsen, we should keep it clean. We aim at
developing diving in Armenia.'

A few days ago the divers found a skull of a camel and a stone
container in Lake Sevan, they intend to hand it in to scientists, `At
first in the northern part of the island we found something unclear,
then we were told that it is a skull of a camel, and it is already the
second skull found in the territory of Shorzha from a depth of 18
meters,' said diver Vahe Melkonyan.

They have signed an agreement with French Embassy and at the present
any information about Lake Sevan can be found on Sevanlake.am website.

YEREVAN, August 12. /ARKA/. Armenia’s nature protection ministry denied today rumors going around that Lake Sevan’s water will be used for restoring Iran’s Lake Urmia.

The ministry’s press office said today that these rumors were denied yet on August 10, immediately after they emerged.

“But some media outlets, knowing nothing about the denial and without requesting official information from the responsible agency, insist on the truth of this allegation saying it has not been denied and keep deluding the society,” the ministry says in its press release.

Sevan is one of the largest mountainous lakes in Europe and Asia. It sits in the middle of Armenian Highland at an altitude of 1914 meters.

The lake’s water surface is 1,500 square kilometers. Sevan is the main resource of drinking water in the region.

Lake Urmia is an endorheic salt lake in northwestern Iran near Iran's border with Turkey. The lake is on the brink of disappearance. ---0----

Below is an excerpt from the paper’s editorial:

“It is probably the first time that global warming is becoming a hot topic for people in Armenia too. It isn’t, of course, yet a proven fact that this year’s terrible hot weather will be repeated next year, but the unprecedented length of the high air temperature naturally gives way to concerns.

“The change of climate is a fact, so in that context, desertification appears to be the greatest threat to Armenia. Over the past 25 years, thousands of hectares of woodlands saw trees cut on their territories, with the greenlands being eliminated and the river ecosystems disrupted due to hydropower plants; the Artesian basin in the Ararat valley was wasted without new dams replacing them, while those that had been constructed faced shortage of water.

“And shortage of water is what appears to be an aftermath of climate change, an extremely serious hazard threatening us. Even though we consider the Ararat Valley an area abounding in orchards, any part of it is prone to quickly turning into a desert in case of an insufficient irrigation. Global warming reveals extremely serious challenges to us, whereas we do not seem to have strategies to resist them at present.

“How is the weather change going to affect the springs of drinking water and to what extent will that influence strengthen in the wake of small hydropower plants’ construction? How are we supposed to keep raising the level of [Lake] Sevan and manage to accumulate the necessary water reserves for drinking and irrigation? In what way are we expected to meet the demand for extra power that we will need to cool down our apartments and operate and create extra pumping stations? These questions need, at first sight, to be pushed to the foreground. And without panic at all, as that would prevent us from making reasonable decisions. It is important to undertake those problems’ solution starting from today. And it is possible to do it right now, as that would be a good chance to save several billion cubic meters of water.”
