Re: Tikranakert
This is great news. Last time I recall annual tourists were about 5000.
When I was there about 2 years ago, I saw some Europians in the Stepanakert bus station. Damn it was hot that day sitting in a marshutni
, I even saw some asians.
Think of the turism potential the airport will have if it's launched. I'd go all the way to say Artsakh is even more beautiful than Armenia proper.
Only thing i regret is not eating more traditional karabakhtsi food. My host's family were mostly eating khorovadz...

(do the workers perhaps consider them to be "unmanly" and fit only for women's work). While it might be visually dramatic to see them attacking the ground with pickaxes and shovels, it does nothing to preserve the archaeology. The walls look covered in little scratches and nicks caused by these modern metal tools. You use shovels and pickaxes to remove the topsoil, trowels to remove soil immediately around the objects, and brushes to clear the soil that is touching the actual objects. And you do not toss the spoil dramatically into the air - you carefully gather it together and remove it completely from the site so that it does not contaminate unexcavated areas.
