Forum Rules (Everyone Must Read!!!)

1] What you CAN NOT post.

You agree, through your use of this service, that you will not use this forum to post any material which is:
- abusive
- vulgar
- hateful
- harassing
- personal attacks
- obscene

You also may not:
- post images that are too large (max is 500*500px)
- post any copyrighted material unless the copyright is owned by you or cited properly.
- post in UPPER CASE, which is considered yelling
- post messages which insult the Armenians, Armenian culture, traditions, etc
- post racist or other intentionally insensitive material that insults or attacks another culture (including Turks)

The Ankap thread is excluded from the strict rules because that place is more relaxed and you can vent and engage in light insults and humor. Notice it's not a blank ticket, but just a place to vent. If you go into the Ankap thread, you enter at your own risk of being clowned on.
What you PROBABLY SHOULD NOT post...
Do not post information that you will regret putting out in public. This site comes up on Google, is cached, and all of that, so be aware of that as you post. Do not ask the staff to go through and delete things that you regret making available on the web for all to see because we will not do it. Think before you post!

2] Use descriptive subject lines & research your post. This means use the SEARCH.

This reduces the chances of double-posting and it also makes it easier for people to see what they do/don't want to read. Using the search function will identify existing threads on the topic so we do not have multiple threads on the same topic.

3] Keep the focus.

Each forum has a focus on a certain topic. Questions outside the scope of a certain forum will either be moved to the appropriate forum, closed, or simply be deleted. Please post your topic in the most appropriate forum. Users that keep doing this will be warned, then banned.

4] Behave as you would in a public location.

This forum is no different than a public place. Behave yourself and act like a decent human being (i.e. be respectful). If you're unable to do so, you're not welcome here and will be made to leave.

5] Respect the authority of moderators/admins.

Public discussions of moderator/admin actions are not allowed on the forum. It is also prohibited to protest moderator actions in titles, avatars, and signatures. If you don't like something that a moderator did, PM or email the moderator and try your best to resolve the problem or difference in private.

6] Promotion of sites or products is not permitted.

Advertisements are not allowed in this venue. No blatant advertising or solicitations of or for business is prohibited.
This includes, but not limited to, personal resumes and links to products or
services with which the poster is affiliated, whether or not a fee is charged
for the product or service. Spamming, in which a user posts the same message repeatedly, is also prohibited.

7] We retain the right to remove any posts and/or Members for any reason, without prior notice.

- PLEASE READ -

Members are welcome to read posts and though we encourage your active participation in the forum, it is not required. If you do participate by posting, however, we expect that on the whole you contribute something to the forum. This means that the bulk of your posts should not be in "fun" threads (e.g. Ankap, Keep & Kill, This or That, etc.). Further, while occasionally it is appropriate to simply voice your agreement or approval, not all of your posts should be of this variety: "LOL Member213!" "I agree."
If it is evident that a member is simply posting for the sake of posting, they will be removed.

8] These Rules & Guidelines may be amended at any time. (last update September 17, 2009)

If you believe an individual is repeatedly breaking the rules, please report to admin/moderator.

Also , somewhere it has been mentioned about concern of cyanide contamination in our water system and ground .
Cyanide ( and mercury ) are used in gold processing .
In the US ( the richest country in the world ) mismanagement of cyanide & mercury containment in the mining industry is a constant occurrence .
As Vrej stated --- if high tech resourceful America does not show the appropriate concern for these toxic substances , then a high likelihood that Armenia is doing no better .
Unless the Hay govt & people institute a very strong mining watchdog office , the land and water can be virtually irretrievably contaminated .
An extreme and timely addressing of this is in order .

    Artashes,
I can not say if there is a link between Bentonite and the product you mention.

Concerning semi-precious gems, what you presume must be true.
But once again, I am not a geologist.
I know, that in soviet times we had a rather correct geology museum, somewhere near republic square.
During war years, it was still operating, but nearly out of funds.
I heard an Artsakh specialist, who served as minister in last soviet cabinet, was promising to open a new or more modern one, or something like that.
    This needs to be checked.
Anyway, in that soviet era museum, you had hundreds of semi precious stones referenced, from small Armenian SSR.
Now you must add the NKR, wich gives you 50% increase of territory.
The Mrav chain is specially rich in rare metals.

I used to sail on a 220 ft offshore supply boat taking supplies to an offshore oil rig . One of the main supplies we would take to the oil rig was pallets loaded with sacks of beyroid (sp?) , which is the drilling mud , which is used to lubricate the drilling head and also the specific gravity of beyroid can be manipulated so that it can be made very heavy to stop up flow or contain fluctuating pressures .
I wonder if bentonite is what beyroid is produced from .
I cannot believe there could be a substantial copper or gold deposit and not have the related precious and simi precious stones . Would probably almost impossible or extremely unlikely not to have rocks around .

Messed up -- this was supposed to be posted in national thread by Vrej , sorry

    You(re welcome.
About the cylinders, you are right, at one end, they are thinner.
So what you used to buy then, was very probably Vanazor made.

For this question, I do not know for sure, but if they do overlook in the US, then certainly they do the same here.
Our mining industry is very basic and rude.
The waste mud they abandon is still so rich, that back a decade ago, before the 2008 crisis and the rise of Gold once, an indian company purchased Sotk gold mine, and with it the Ararat gold factory.... just to stop mining in Sotk, and recycle the waste mont near the factory in Ararat....
Once they took all the Gold, they declared bankrupcy and got away ... not anticipating the rise of the Gold price

    Re: National Industry

Very interesting info you've supplied Vrej .
I'm now seeing why this beautiful synthetic gem material was produced ( I think ) .
They needed the conundrum for drilling purposes and realized by introducing other elements they could produce gem colors . They no dought did not need the color for the industrial use so this whole gem thing was a by product to pull in extra revenue .
Russia has huge diamond deposit . Most diamond is not gem grade so am surprised they did not cheaply produce diamond drills instead of corundum .
If France produced the statue of liberty with Armenian copper and the synthetic conundrum is really Armenian produced , it once again shows how little credit or recognition Armenia gets and how everyone else takes all the glory while never mentioning us .
    Thanks again for info .

Yes , my memory is coming back . As a young man I used to buy this stuff I America and it was made in Soviet union . It was never mentioned which of the soviet socialist countries it was actually produced on .
The round cylinders are called " boules " and probably narrow at one end .
What you are speaking of is definitely gem ( synthetic ) quality .
I saved all my old catalogs from 40 + years ago but in these modern times have not seen it anywhere .
Will rereading and search out your info , to see if I can access this .
I used to love to make knife blades of ruby , Safire etc for unique one of a kind knives as well as many other things .
    Thank you

    Frankly,
I do not know, how to judge the quality.
I know it is produced since soviet times in Vanatzor (aka-Kirovakan), the factory named now as Chimprom.
I know it was one of the prides of Armenia's chemical industry.
I must have small samples somewhere, dating those years. The ones I have are dark blue and dark red/ruby colored.
They have cylindrical forms, aprox 8 cm long..
I think color is changed with the modification of additional impurities, during the melt of Zyrconium oxydes??
Frankly I do not know to whom they sell by now, and for wich purpose they are used.
Might well be gem quality, after all, since the colors I remember are well gem like (ruby?).
But if I do remember, in soviet industry, they were used mostly for industrial uses?? Once again, I may be wrong, and perhaps I make a confusion, but I think they were used in petrol industry, as parts of the driller heads, in place of diamonds ???
We also used to produce the natural lubrification of the same drillers then, from a mine near Ijevan.... known as Bentonite.

I'm afraid, I have no idea how you could find the quality?
If you are really interested, may be you could contact the producer in Vanatzor?
If not, perhaps you may google it?
