I think the only reason you guys are holding opposite ends is the fact that Vrej is a good christian and Anon and Lylia are not.

well, realistically/logically speaking, Anon and Lylia totally make sense.... being a really bad christian, I've been questioning the ingredients of the Holy Bible since I was 8. but that hasn't and is not going to make me any less of an Armenian. see I'd fight and die for Armenia. I wouldn't for christianity. and I have friends who share this thought...which makes me believe that even though christianity might be ONE of the numerous factors for being a good armenian, it definitely isn't/hasn't been THE factor that's kept our nation so far.

oh, i'm not a perfect christian either. But I am determined that the armenian church is the only thing that was able to keep our armenian identity alive throughout the ages. Also, the argument of christianity softening us didn't convince me, as all europeans were christian during the medieval times, and they all managed to have like 3 wars a day.

Our church isn't like other christian churches either. The examples brought by vrej about Khrimian hayrig (lunch with him would be cool too) and the priests joining the army show that our church was able to adapt to our needs.

I'm not saying our church is perfect, far from it. But I do believe that if it died, so would we (maybe not so much today as before).

But about building new churches, that has got to be the dumbest idea armenians have ever had. Though I don't think the Republic of Armenia finances them, they're just an excuse for some rich armenian to show that they're still armenian. (yes, i know, i'm generalizing).

As for the church not being important anymore, it seems like religion is only important in the muslim world as of late. And in Vatican city...

Christianity and all religion has been used to supress the people of all lands since the formation of such religions.
We are told that whatever happens in this life, it will be great on the day of reckoning and all will be judged etc etc and that despite the inequalioties on earth, we will all be equal under god etc etc

What is the difference between me and a georgian, turkish, azeri or iranian worker? Firstly i am Human, and therefore equal to EVERYONE in the world, secondly i am a worker, same with neighbouring nation workers. It is a silly concept to differenciate between nationalities and not class differences.

The Fight for Artsakh was indeed very important as it was to fight to defend life from murder and brutality and was indeed a heroic fight. It would have been silly to suggest to start debating on the theory of nationhood during the massacres going on during the conflict. But one day i hope we will have no border with our brothers and sisters around

Come on Kamo, don't get carried away with your utopic communist fantasies. It's not gonna happen, not when you're around at least. And the last time we had no borders with our turkish brothers, we became victims of genocide. Kocharian said that we are "ethnically incompatible" with the Azeris, and while he did receive quite some flack from the Council of Europe for that comment, it really is true.

So what are you suggesting? Another October revolution? Trust me, I don't intend to give you any flack, and I apologize if I came across that way. I actually have always been against all those suggesting that the USSR was negative for Armenia, it's just that it was an experience that was bound to happen some time (although I would've liked the breakup to take place in a calmer manner), and end it did.

Christianity is not an "ideology" that is simply adopted for the sake of convenience... truth is... Jesus came and died for us... and "whosoever believeth in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life". Eternal life... that's something worth fighting for... that's the uniting force that binds Armenians together and allows us to maintain our identity... when the emigrants to the west become atheists under this forsaken liberal system... the Turks win... that Armenian is not Armenian anymore... not in the sense of what it was to be Armenian 100 years ago.

I'd rather belong to a race that's sinned against than one that sins (i.e. all of our neighbours)... The Last shall be first and the First shall be last.
