Forum Rules (Everyone Must Read!!!)
1] What you CAN NOT post.
You agree, through your use of this service, that you will not use this forum to post any material which is:
- abusive
- vulgar
- hateful
- harassing
- personal attacks
- obscene
You also may not:
- post images that are too large (max is 500*500px)
- post any copyrighted material unless the copyright is owned by you or cited properly.
- post in UPPER CASE, which is considered yelling
- post messages which insult the Armenians, Armenian culture, traditions, etc
- post racist or other intentionally insensitive material that insults or attacks another culture (including Turks)
The Ankap thread is excluded from the strict rules because that place is more relaxed and you can vent and engage in light insults and humor. Notice it's not a blank ticket, but just a place to vent. If you go into the Ankap thread, you enter at your own risk of being clowned on.
What you PROBABLY SHOULD NOT post...
Do not post information that you will regret putting out in public. This site comes up on Google, is cached, and all of that, so be aware of that as you post. Do not ask the staff to go through and delete things that you regret making available on the web for all to see because we will not do it. Think before you post!
2] Use descriptive subject lines & research your post. This means use the SEARCH.
This reduces the chances of double-posting and it also makes it easier for people to see what they do/don't want to read. Using the search function will identify existing threads on the topic so we do not have multiple threads on the same topic.
3] Keep the focus.
Each forum has a focus on a certain topic. Questions outside the scope of a certain forum will either be moved to the appropriate forum, closed, or simply be deleted. Please post your topic in the most appropriate forum. Users that keep doing this will be warned, then banned.
4] Behave as you would in a public location.
This forum is no different than a public place. Behave yourself and act like a decent human being (i.e. be respectful). If you're unable to do so, you're not welcome here and will be made to leave.
5] Respect the authority of moderators/admins.
Public discussions of moderator/admin actions are not allowed on the forum. It is also prohibited to protest moderator actions in titles, avatars, and signatures. If you don't like something that a moderator did, PM or email the moderator and try your best to resolve the problem or difference in private.
6] Promotion of sites or products is not permitted.
Advertisements are not allowed in this venue. No blatant advertising or solicitations of or for business is prohibited.
This includes, but not limited to, personal resumes and links to products or
services with which the poster is affiliated, whether or not a fee is charged
for the product or service. Spamming, in which a user posts the same message repeatedly, is also prohibited.
7] We retain the right to remove any posts and/or Members for any reason, without prior notice.
- PLEASE READ -
Members are welcome to read posts and though we encourage your active participation in the forum, it is not required. If you do participate by posting, however, we expect that on the whole you contribute something to the forum. This means that the bulk of your posts should not be in "fun" threads (e.g. Ankap, Keep & Kill, This or That, etc.). Further, while occasionally it is appropriate to simply voice your agreement or approval, not all of your posts should be of this variety: "LOL Member213!" "I agree."
If it is evident that a member is simply posting for the sake of posting, they will be removed.
8] These Rules & Guidelines may be amended at any time. (last update September 17, 2009)
If you believe an individual is repeatedly breaking the rules, please report to admin/moderator.

With Russia we are good friends, we all speak Russian, watch Russian TV, eat Russian food and listen to Russian music in Armenia, our cultures are well harmonized and any western influence would come in between us. Of course, geographically Armenia is in Europe, and it was the center of European culture once... There is no reason why it shouldn't be part of EU except the Russian question.. Maybe we should wait until we can go there together with Russia...
Don't you think its wrong to have that much Russian influence on almost everything in Armenia? I mean yes, Armenians in Armenia speak Russian but that's about it. It's our country too... lol. I was in Armenia 8 years ago, and I remember all the street names and signs and stuff were in Russian and I couldn't read them. Why not write them in Armenian? It's not like Russian is an international language, lol. I mean the Soviet days are long gone, it's about time for Armenia to be Armenia, independent. I don't know, I don't like it. I mean keep the good relations, but be independent. Also just because two cultures are harmonized, doesn't mean they need to stick together forever. We should go with whatever benefits us the most, and I truly believe the choice should be the EU... but ey, who am I to decide?
I didn't know Russia was so much against Armenia joining the EU... Why is that?(we're speaking of Armenia joining the EU, like it's gonna happen tomorrow! hahaha )

Originally posted by AnushikIf you go to Armenian now, you can see that all streets names are written in Armenian, what's more, now government is changing names of streets, which I think is too much... if we are not in Soviet Union, doesn't mean that we need to change street's name Kutuzov into Gyulbekyan... and many-many others... collapse of Soviet Union, doesn't change our history... we have always been with Russia, and I think that we need to stay with them… they are our neighbors, and they always helped us…

Originally posted by TigranJamharianThe street names are a small step but quite symbolic, we arent a freakin Russian province for God's sake. The collapse of a system that did contribute a lot to our development but also worked hard to stiffle our national pride, culture and religion shouldnt be viewed as anything but positive. Nothing can change history, it is done and over, but this is our present and at present our nation is independant Armenia and we can look to a more glorious and independant history not to Russian control and in a large way loss of national dignity. I speak Russian as well as Armenian, I have Russian friends but I am first and foremost Armenian and I realize that thats the only thing that matters because there isnt anyone sitting in Russia right now saying lets name this road after an Armenian because they are our neighbors and have helped us, NO! Whenever the Russians or anyone else has helped us it has always been out of self-interest. Whether it was against the turks after WW1 or against the other turks 15 years ago. Why cant we realize that and start looking after our own national interests for once?
In changing street's name maybe you have a point, but I still think that some names should not be changed... anyway this is my opinion...

Oh and you rather have the street names of your country be in some other language than your own? whatever...

the other one... I don't say that Armenian streets' names should be written in Russian (I didn't see any street's name written in Russian during past 5-6 years at least). I'm just saying that we should not change the names of the streets... write in Armenian language but don't change the names ...

Now they definately have interest because they realize its a strategic region. and this has nothing to do with the US and I dont see where you get "the US wants Armenia to be in EU and Russia doesnt" there is no US position, at least not an official one, but the US does want democratization and an open economy. Why doesnt Russia want us in? because that way we would actually get some self sufficiency. How is Russia helping us nowadays besides militarily guarding our borders? The Russians take over our electricity network and production and invest almost nill even though the promised plenty while the EU is giving millions of Euros in grants and hundreds of millions in loans to encourage renewable energy, keep our forests, increase standard of living of the people and cut down on corruption. Russia doesnt care, their government is arguable more F-ed up than ours and they could care less about our economy, the living standards of our people or whether we are burning coal and oil and polluting our nation or we are developing renewable energy and protecting our environment. If anything Russia wants to keep Armenia weak and vulnerable so that we are its de-facto province. And you say noone knows what Armenia is in the US, well i have to say i disagree, either im nuts or you are talking to some really unintelligent people. If my country basically owned another one for 70 years like Russia owned Armenia i doubt i wouldnt have heard of it. If you havent heard Armenians arent exactly the loved people in Russia, Armenians there are viewed worse than blacks were in the US for hundreds of years. If we entered the EU i find it highly unlikely that anyone would start a war with Armenia, that way we would have 25 of the most developed and powerful nations supporting us because we belong to and organization whose name they wish to preserve while now we are at the whim of Putin and a few thousand Russian soldiers stationed in our country, incidentally being fed and clothed by us. Noone is saying make an enemy of Russia, that would be senseless and stupid. Im just saying that at a choice of between Russia and the EU I find it difficult how you could see the benefits of irresponisble and unstable Russia that can barely take care of itself let alone putting our interests to heart.
"few thousand Russian soldiers stationed in our country" is not small thing... If EU protects our borders with its army, I'll be the first person you will be agree to enter into EU...
Tigran jan, you are living in California, aren't you? That's why everyone knows about Armenia... I came to South Carolina, my friends came to Texas, Illinois, Washington State... we all had that kind of problem... even one of my proffesors asked me "Isn't Armenia a city in Russia?" ... and he was sooooooooooooooooo surprised when I told that Armenia is an independent country... are you surprised now?
